I finally got around to replacing my IAC. The moose call was getting louder and louder... I could hear it coming out of my tailpipe!
I called a ford dealer here in Buffalo (West Herr)... $160 something bucks for my 96 XLT 4.0L
I then called Basil Ford, $124 for an IAC.
I then drove to Towne Ford. The guy at the parts counter said it's either one of the two available for my 96 XLT. One was $62, the other was $90 something. The only difference was the electrical plug on the end of the solenoid... the $62 IAC had the plug in one position, the $90 IAC had the plug about 90 degrees offset from the other IAC.
Luckily, my truck had the $62 IAC valve! Now why in the hell did I get prices ranging from $160 to $62?? I never realized that there were minor differences in IAC valves on a single year model.
Be sure to ask, visually verify, and double check... mail order might be a headache with this part. I don't even want to think of the goofiness with other year models!
