Should Major league baseball have drug testing?

Pro football as well as basketball have drug testing programs. All high school as well as college athletes are subjected to drug testing.

When wiull Big league baseball comply?

It has been stated that the reason is that the players union is too powerful.

What type of drugs are you hoping to find? Steroids or Crack. If they want to smoke crack thats fine with me i could care less. Its not my life they are ruining. Even steroids i dont care.

People say that steroids are giving people an unfair advantage but so does NOS in a race and people use that all the time. If you want to slowly kill yourself go right ahead .... smoke one for me !!!

I agree that these guys are hero's to our children but children should know enough that they are doing something bad and they will pick a new hero.

The way i feel about the drug problem in this world today is this .... i think we should give every crack addict as much crack as they want or cocaine or whatever drug they use and just let them overdose. That way we can rid the world of trash like them.

I liked Hulk Hogan when i was about 7 years old and they had a special on TV saying that he was on steroids. That didnt make me want to go out and buy steroids. That just made me realize he was a fool. I guess my parents just raised me right ??? Who knows ??

Unfortunately, many kids today with all the pressures society places on them to excell, the steroid thing is a temptation.

Most Americans have to take a drug test to get a job and basically that's what it is, a job. Either everyone or no one! All sports or no sports! All jobs or no jobs.

Not a pre-employment drug test.

Military was every month. Civi job...never.

I can guarentee you that half of America would be unemployed. At three of my last jobs i would say that 75% of workers and a few managers smoked weed before after and during work.

Never had random drug testing. I agree that 50% of people (if not more) would be unemployed if given a random drug test. I really don't care if they are tested in sports. But you have to figure the most used drug is alcohol, it also kills the most and it's legal??

I'm not a big sports guy, so I didn't know about this, and I can't beleive they don't get drug tests!

Hey man they know whats bad for them, if they wanna kill themselves with steroids and other drugs? Let them, they are grown ups. I know this might sound bad, but if you are a baseball fan now and you think its rather boring to watch.... then whats gonna happen when just normal baseball players are playing? Oh yeah if you dont think that pretty much every single football player is on steroids then you are dilirious... Believe me they find ways around it. Have you ever seen some of the linemen? Give me a break. Oh yeah Arizona's wide reciver david boston or whatever his first name is went on a great workout plan....wanna know what exercise plan he was introduced to? a needle in the arse cheek haha if you dont laugh when you hear that then please go lay under your back tire and have your wife/friend put it in reverse. There is no way around it, just accept it, that with or without the drug testing people will find ways and have been finding ways.

The whole way the reporter set that up was pretty underhanded. He talked to him about how Sammy would be the first in line if the drug tests became mandatory, then, without Sosa previously knowing about it, he offered to take him to one right then and there. Sammy left with good reason. That's ridiculous. The reporter did it for ratings, he knew what the response would be. Sammy wouldn't have gone into the interview if he had known he was gonna be asked that and all of a sudden everyone thinks that he does steroids. Think about it. If it happened to you, you'd be pissed off too. Sure, you can sit there and say you wouldn't be, you'd go right out and do it, but if you were a baseball player and in his situation, you'd be pissed off.

The public has made this whole situation so ridiculous it's even transferred over to women's tennis with people wondering about whether or not Venus and Serena should have to do drugs tests :rolleyes:

I REALLY disagree with how the public puts up with it. Every time a player says anything about it, it's automatically "oh...he does 'em." Just because they're good, they have to do steroids? Just because they disagree with the fact that they should have to do drug tests, they have to do steroids? Ridiculous. People should get back to talking about things that are really important... Baseball hasn't had drug tests in a long time. Never bothered anybody. All of a sudden, the media wants to get the whole world to gossip, so they start a whole, "is there steroids?" campaign and get people in a tuff about it.

Besides, is it really so hard for people to imagine other people actually working harder to succeed? Do you think EVERY athelete does it? Without a doubt, every sport has changed since back in the day. People are getting better and all of a sudden, because of that, steroids comes into play. Back when McGuire and Sosa competed in the home run race...no one questioned anything except maybe the mound needs to be lowered...

Let's not forget how this whole subject got started...

Jose Canseco said he was writing a book about people that did steroids. How EVERYONE did steroids. Then all of a sudden, the next day, he took everything back and said only a couple did. Gee...sure sounds like he was trying to get some attention there. Let's not forget it's Jose Canseco...:rolleyes:

F*** the player's union. It's not their decision. Get the DEA involved. It is illegal in the United States to use steroids/hGH/Adderall what have you unless you have a valid prescription. What they are doing is breaking the law. It's that simple.

Yes I think they should be tested. Comparing steriods to NOS is not possible, unless your allowed to use NOS in a race, it;s cheating, so unless you are allowed to use roids in baseball, it's cheating.

Besides just tell your kids, Seroids make your penis small. Thats all I ever heard and I never once tried them or wanted too.....and I tried just about all the other ones........

What is at issue here is the fact that 2 individuals have broken the home run record in the past 3 years. This record had stood for nearly how many years (30 or more)? Do you honestly think they are that good or do you think they have used performance enhancing drugs, ie steroids?

I think they definately should have testing for all baseball players. To make the arguement that they all will do it anyway, so just let them, is outrageous. Are you going to use the same arguement for your teenage daughter who wants to have sex with her boyfriend???

The point is some people actually do give a sh*** about America's pasttime, baseball, and believe things like playing by the rules and doing the right thing are still important values to instill not only in our children, but from the top down, ie the heros they look up to!

Baseball players are a bunch of whiney little bi#%hes. IMO if they wanna strike again they should all have to line up. Anyone fails they're gone. I'd say prob. AT LEAST 85% would fail. I'm sure their all not on steriods, but a lot are on recreational drugs.

Now that is a perfect idea. If they get greedy and strike again like they own the world or something we should put them in their place and fire the basterds and not allow them to play if they have drugs in their system.

I agree wholeheartedly, I`ll even hold the pipe or prepare the needles for you to OD if you like, but I think "all" sports should test athletes to guard against any unfair advantage. There is so many rewards for an athlete that does well. It`s not fair to an athlete who never takes performance enhancing drugs to be left behind.

I always maintain that governments are hypocritical in their views on drugs. They are more than willing to get in on the profit of alcohol and tobacco, which claims more lives than I can count, but they blow that profit on the war on [other]drugs. Now the U.S. is a little more heavyhanded than Canada, but you sure want more Canadian effort in the "war". But geez, America loves our weed so much you trade cocaine pound for pound for it! And can`t you get life in prison for three marijuana convictions in America? -oh my god!
Why can`t people just do what they want with their bodies? Isn`t your body the only thing you really own? NO, I`m sorry, your gov`t owns you, even suicide is against the law, there is just too many years of taxation that you owe to go and die on us.

Oh, one more thing, I don`t mean to trash a national pastime and I played for several years on a baseball team, but "watching" baseball is almost as boring as watching golf! Now hockey, there`s a sport to watch!
