View Full Version : Remove the muffler heat shield?

The heat shield on my muffler was knocked loose, so I used a banding strap to hold it on. Well, the strap has now become loose, and the heat shield is rattling again.

What could happen if I were to just remove the heat shield? Has anyone else done so? Am I running any risks by removing it , or is it OK?

Thanks!

is it on the muffler or on the cat convertor?

Those shields were some of the first things to go on my BII, teh rattling drove me nuts! My aftermarket customexhaust doesnt have them and it runs even closer to the floor boards then before....

Just be aware if there are any wires or hoses near it....you also dont want to get the solenoids on the side of the automatic transmissions hot.

Should not hurt anything to rip that sucker off......I havent had them in 5 years

Mine have been off my back two mufflers for at least three years, and no problems.
