View Full Version : found a locker for explorer wolfgang 07-10-2002, 05:56 AM For more information check out this site www.killeraxles.com jasonb 07-10-2002, 09:57 AM hey wolfgang.. is that your company? i just notice the contact info on that site is a wolfgang also and your both in germany. if your the guy, could you give us some more info such as costs of these. are the explorer ones already made or would they be custom jobs? thanks! TarHeel085 07-10-2002, 11:21 AM hey that truck on the front page is in 4wheeler this month. that thing is awesome with dual unimog portals. Robert 07-10-2002, 12:14 PM The problem is it doesn't say what years the Explorer locker is for. The earlier ones already have locker capability. It would be nice if the locker was for a late model though. Although with prices starting at $689 and shipping could push the price to $1000, especially if the company is located in Germany. It says to see the Links section for US distributers but the only two links were for a Driveshaft company and a Crusher company. I couldn't find any information on either of their sites regarding lockers though. soupbone 07-10-2002, 12:38 PM will this work for D35 in 1995+ explorer? Its not the same as the 91 to 94. Adam Foote 07-10-2002, 12:45 PM Just a question, arnt there alot of lockers for the explorers? wolfgang 07-10-2002, 12:49 PM Yes its my company !:D The lockers are already made and availible for all years of the Explorer ! The price is 849$ including shipping to the US, if you order 10 at a time ! Tarheel085 thanks that you like my truck! Wolfgang www.killeraxles.com Rick 07-10-2002, 01:01 PM The selective locker people have been looking for and is for the Independent Front Suspension on the '95-'02 Explorers. Do you have one for that application? Also, if you want to advertise your products on my site we'll have to work out some kind of arrangement. Please e-mail or PM me. Thanks, Rick By the way, it looks like you have some great stuff on your site. wolfgang 07-10-2002, 01:44 PM Yes we have a locker for the 95 -02 Explorer ! I will contact you regarding advertising ,I am very interested ! Wolfgang www.killeraxles.com jasonb 07-10-2002, 02:17 PM Originally posted by wolfgang Yes we have a locker for the 95 -02 Explorer ! that's the answer we've been looking for! last time i looked, there were over 15 ready to shell out cash for one. yeah that truck is really nice. that "rock crusher" is pretty insane too. kevinapg 07-10-2002, 05:05 PM Are the ones this company sells any good? They are fairly inexpensive. Truck Performance.com (http://www.truckperformance.com/) jasonb 07-11-2002, 03:50 PM i'm surprised this hasn't gotten more interest. i was pretty excited about it since it fits the IFS front end! adam.. yes for the rear end, not for the IFS front of the 95+ models. we want a selectable up there! kevin, yes they are fine. i don't have personal experience with them but they supposedly have good street manners too. lots of folks on the board run those. you can get them cheaper if you look hard. soupbone 07-11-2002, 03:58 PM heh im interested but man i just bought a engagement ring  Translate this page from German to English: http://www.kfz-schwarz.de/produkte/sperre.htm http://world.altavista.com/ It gives a description on how it works mechanically. It looks good to me... shrug.... Jefe 07-11-2002, 04:12 PM Originally posted by jasonb i'm surprised this hasn't gotten more interest. i was pretty excited about it since it fits the IFS front end!. . . I'd be excited, but I've already got a powertrax sitting in my back seat ready to go in on saturday. . .if I like the powertrax I'm sure others will follow suit . . .if I don't i might be interested in this. I'll probably just hold out and get an OX with a D44 attached though ;) My biggest concerns: 1) If these guys make lockers for as many vehicles as they say, why haven't we heard of them until now? 2) just like an ARB these are going to be prone to air leaks and electrical failures (although maybe not quite as much seeing as it doesn't look like it requires constant pressure [or lack thereof] to remain engaged like the ARB) and I've dreaded investing in an ARB becuase of that. wolfgang 07-11-2002, 04:40 PM @Jefe i do understand you concern We are not a big company and so we had to start with the European market. Right now we are ready to start in the US market. You can fix a vacuum leak very easy with a simple tape. You only need vacuum to switch the locker in or out (no constant vacuum). There is no pump, the locker is operated with vacuum from you motor. You have a vacuum source as long as your motor is running. If the motor stalls, you really donīt need a locker. The switch is mechanical and the only elektric part is the control light. There is no vacuum part inside the axle. It is also possible to change to a cable (cheaper). But in our opinion, this is a step back and we do not like to do this. www.killeraxles.com jasonb 07-11-2002, 04:41 PM Originally posted by Jefe I'll probably just hold out and get an OX with a D44 attached though ;) haha.. i like that idea! are you doing anything to get rid of the auto4x4 for the powertrax front install? i'd be interested in hearing how you like it. i know that one guy has that unit in his ranger front ("go-offroad" i think) and he liked it but the more reviews the merrier! soupbone.. congrats dude! you'll be happy you spent the $$ on that instead. :) and i'm guessing that wolfgang's stuff is pretty darn good.. that good ole german engineering! soupbone 07-11-2002, 04:44 PM Hrmm so this requires a special diff cover for the axle. Do you have any US distributors yet? wolfgang 07-11-2002, 04:56 PM You do not need a spec. diff cover. For some locker weīve built a cover, for others you have to drill a hole in the existing cover or in the 3rd member (like 9" Ford). Right now we are just starting to sell our locker in the US. We do not have a dealer over there yet. But very soon I will move to LA. That makes it a lot easier for me and the customers (dealers). If someone likes to become a dealer, letīs talk about. (send e-mail) wolfgang@tibus-offroad.com www.killeraxles.com Robert 07-11-2002, 05:09 PM Originally posted by soupbone heh im interested but man i just bought a engagement ring  Ask for your ring back and tell her you have a higher priority:o soupbone 07-11-2002, 05:29 PM HAH! I dont think so. But she says she likes me offroading and such. So the soon to be WAF should be no problem. Hrmm capital one(tm) is my friend??? So Wolfgang the vacuum engagement mechanism is located outside of the axle. Do you include intructions for a installer? wolfgang 07-11-2002, 05:54 PM @suppenknochen (german for soupbone) ha ha sure, we include instructions for a installer!;) Wolfgang www.killeraxles.com Jefe 07-11-2002, 07:01 PM Originally posted by jasonb haha.. i like that idea! are you doing anything to get rid of the auto4x4 for the powertrax front install? . . . I've got an Atlas II T-case. . .no more of that crap BW 44-05 jasonb 07-11-2002, 11:33 PM oh yeah.. i remember that now! i still want to know how it does up front. Adam Foote 07-11-2002, 11:58 PM ah i understand now wolfgang, first off i didnt realize it was your company, and second i didnt know you couldnt find one for the sec gen, i have a first gen, sorry bout that guys soupbone 07-15-2002, 05:40 PM Did ARB give everybody cold feet or what? taxx 07-16-2002, 11:27 AM Originally posted by Robert Ask for your ring back and tell her you have a higher priority:o HA. I remember that like it was yeserday. That is why i sold my motorcycle, had to pay for the ring! What ya need is a low maintenance woman that doesn't know the difference between a real diamond and rock candy!:D soupbone 07-16-2002, 11:46 AM heh! exactly. I had plenty of cash for mods! winch bumper,sliders,lockers,etc... nope!! I got her a nice stone I think. She liked it and said she will buy me something for my truck for Christmas :D How hard is it to drop the front diff from the truck? Installer would install a locker for $120 for pulled diffs. $180 for the 8.8. taxx 07-16-2002, 12:20 PM Originally posted by soupbone heh! exactly. Better get used to submitting POs!:D 2) As for droping it, once you do it once no big deal, but it is time consuming. You have to first remove both half-shafts, which includes removing the wheel, caliper, rotor, hub assembly, upper ball joint, tie rod end; all from the knuckle on both sides (pretty much in that order too). Then pull out the shafts, by first using a large screwdriver or pry bar to "pop" it out of the axle tube. then pull. then put a jack under the diff and put presure on it to hold it up while you remove the 3 bolts holding it on. Then lower the jack. It is that easy:D, for your first time plan on 2 - 3 hours. i would also put an oil pan under the diff and some plastic for the fluid that slops out the ends. Good luck.:D jasonb 07-16-2002, 12:47 PM Originally posted by taxxman2k 1) Once you both say "I do" it all changes. Better get used to submitting POs!:D hahaha! ain't that the truth! |
