View Full Version : Tooooo HOT
btdigital 08-14-2002, 09:41 AM Out of nowhere, my truck started running into the "H" zone on my temp gauge. I cant tell if my water pump is fried, thermostat is stuck, there's sludge in the water ways, radiator caap is shot.... I don't know where to begin, but I know I can't continue driving it like this. The gauge never went past the C before. Any help would be great.
ChuckyD 08-14-2002, 09:43 AM Try the t-stat. I just replaced mine.
Are there any puddles anywhere, is your overflow empty?
aldive 08-14-2002, 09:45 AM In addition to what Chucky advised, take a look at the coolant. If nasty looking, I would do a flush and add new coolant,
Good luck.....
btdigital 08-14-2002, 09:50 AM did a flush, earlier in the summer, tho, i'll admit it wasn't a very good one. and no no puddles, overflow tank checks out, no "vanillish" overheated coolant smells
ChuckyD 08-14-2002, 09:53 AM prob smells like syrup, right?
I bet its the t-stat, your collant mixture is good right?
The t-stat is a cheap and easy fix, try that first if it doesnt work you may need a new radiator.
btdigital 08-14-2002, 10:04 AM I'm gonna do that and a new rad cap, I just hope its not the pump. Thanks guys
ChuckyD 08-14-2002, 10:12 AM No problem, good luck!
james t 08-14-2002, 10:51 AM never had experience with Ford pump going bad- but G.M.'s usually tell-tale sign is leaking at the pump and VERY noisy. more than likely, its just the thermostat.
btdigital 08-14-2002, 01:53 PM Thanks everyone! Replaced the t-stat, and rad cap and bingo, back into a reasonable temp zone! WOO HOO!
ChuckyD 08-14-2002, 01:53 PM Glad to hear it!!!
Adam Foote 08-18-2002, 02:05 AM how much does it cost to replace the t stat
I think a new thermostat is about $5. The labor is the hard part ;)
Adam Foote 08-18-2002, 02:10 AM how much to have one installed
Adam Foote 08-18-2002, 02:34 AM .
Adam!
You wouldn`t get a shop to do that for you would ya?
shame on you!
- it is so easy!
Adam Foote 08-18-2002, 03:50 PM is it really that easy, im pretty confident usually, except sometimes my stepdad tells me i couldnt do somthing, but last time he said i couldnt install my own coils and i proved him wrong, not that it was even hard. but thanks, i will try to find a write up on how to change it
Adam Foote 08-18-2002, 03:51 PM oh yeah, i also wondered what the best one i should get is, i do alot of driving and it is 50/50 on road and off road, and its really hot here in houston sooo....? any suggestions?
btdigital 08-19-2002, 09:06 AM yea man, it's a piece of cake. 3 bolts. you need to move a few things to get the wrenches in where you can turn them, but other than that easy as pie. it took me a little less than an hour to change my oil, oil filter, change the t-stat, flush the rad, fill it, and put the new cap on.
shame on you! its so easy
Hmm. I did mine the other day and it is a bit of a pain actually. Kept dropping my tools and slashing my wrists on the fan shroud, finally just took the fan and shroud right out. Easy after that. Maybe I spoke too soon... But it LOOKS easy! It`s just tricky to actually get your hands in there.
