View Full Version : Who has plastic models of Explorers?

Crankcase
08-20-2002, 11:08 PM
I was wondering if any body makes small plastic models of their Explorers.

I have 4, three plastic, and one metal.
Here are the pics I took of them....

The first is all 4 of them. The brown one is 1/20 scale, and the rest are 1/24,or 1/25 scale.

The next shot is the white one. I could have made it into an Eddie bauer or Limited with the pieces that come with it in the kit, but I wanted to make it into a police vehicle.

This shot is of the police cage I constructed from sheet metal.

LOL I thought I was the only one! :D

Here's my 1/20th scale "Mini-Me".

Hey nice model Raceit! I wish I could find a 4 door 1st gen X though..

This is the police X that I made. The lights are in the grill where the arrows are pointing....

Here is a shot of the back of the metal one. The rear seats fold down, doors open, and liftgate opens...

The black one is a snap together kit that I painted. It is supposed to be purple. Notice the dual police antennaes on the white one....:)

Oh that's cool. Only people like us can apreciate things like that. :D

It looks like you used chrome spray paint on the bumper. I was about to do that to mine when I rubbed off some of that plastic chrome and it gave way to the green plastic underneath.

Crankcase

Ah the 4.0:)
The engine bay of the brown model. I did it a while ago, and forgot something. Guess what?

Raceit should know, he has the same model:)

The bumper was chrome. They gave you two in the kit, one Limited bumper with foglight dam unpainted, one chrome with out air dam..

This shot is of the brown model. It is as close to mine as possible, 'cept it is 2 door:(

Even the models have to go off road sometimes. Here it is "Flexing out".:)

Pertty dumb ha? I was going to put it in after I painted the engine bay, then I misplaced it:(

I had to paint it with touch up paint to get that color, so it is also a bad paint job:(

I have a 1/24 scale model on a little stand sitting on top of my TV. Its funny because if you look under it, it has a solid front axle and it also has Goodyear MT's. I guess the model company thinks the same as we do. :D I also noticed that it has three pedals but its an automatic.

Yep! I had to have that paper to do it. Since I don't have my own printing press or anything to make real stickers. :)

No. It was just a regular model. Got it from eBay.

Raceit,
There is two versions of that model, that sport one, and the same model repackaged as a Highway patrol version with a light bar and such. The police one is the one I have. It is the exact same model though.

I'm not sure of the scale, but I have one that is the stock version of my X (right down to color matching) and another model with a lift and 35" on it!!!!

I'll round them up and take a pic of them!

There doesn't seem to be many X's out there... always seem to be other manuf. SUVs for some odd reason.
Performance Products had some metallic replicas however, and I did have one, but a nephew liked it so much I gave it to him... and my ordered one was on backorder so long I gave up and cancelled the order. Maybe enough time has passed to where they've restocked. It was pretty slick. For now, I'll have to live vicariously through my Mystery Machine model?

Well after you guys starting posting about the models, I started searching and found one on Ebay like RaceIt posted earlier. Got it for $5.50 plus 2.50 s/h last night. Can't beat that. I will have to paint it black to match mine, but I think I can handle that. Only downfall is, now that I've started purchasing the parts to lift my Ex', my new model want match it anymore. Oh, well!

I have a bunch of 1st generation Explorer "toys".
Just for reference, the orange sport trac is the size of a Hot Wheels car.

I have never had this one out of the box.

Nice to see there are other collectors out there  Dig that nifty Christmas ornament!

I have a (like 1:56 scale, lol) first gen wind up, a big plastic EB fist gen, and two 1:26 scale 97 sports, one green, one black. Tried to paint the black one to look like Blackjack, but my painting skills leave a lot to be desired, lol. I'll post a pic as soon as I get my film developed!

I want to nab the rims off a bullitt mustang model this year and take the headlights off of my 70 Mach 1 to use as imitation hellas ;)

Where have I been? I need to check this forum more. I have not built mine but I have two of the AMT 1996 Limited Explorers. I am going to build one stock and one lifted. I will have to modify the grille to lok like a Mountaineer. I will also use the 5.0 engines from the Revell '32 Roadster kits. If I can ever find a set of American Satco Super Swampers I will use them for the lifted one.
My other hobby is model building and I belong to a local model club named the Kansas City Slammers.

According to American Satco, the company that makes the Swampers is from Japan and they are currently not producing them :fire: and they have no clue as to when they will begin again. It really makes me mad, since I have at least 3-4 more projects that are on hold waiting for the Swampers. I have thought of using one of my extras off my CJ and attempting to resin cast some. They wouldn't be a nice as the rubber Satco products, but at least I'd have some.

Xplorerkid, your crazy with that thing man, good job.

i dont mess around with models much, most of mine are broken, somehow

so i resort to very poor exterior lego trucks
this happens to be my most recent, didnt bother to put the roof on, or hide the working steering. suspension proves a very entertaining passtime. I'll be makin a thread on this one.

this is pretty cool...i got a small X probobly 3 times bigger than a hot wheels car and did some mods to it...first i painted it completely black and "tinted" the windows :D but left the ford and eddie bauer emblems.

next i took a wheel off each side to get them detached and swapped them underneath the body to give it a couple inches of body lift....and then for the final product i got a brush guard and light bar off of a couple of hot wheels cars and threw them on too! and had fun doing it!

Yes, I painted the stripes, but they're a little rough around the edges..might have to re-do them. I'll gladly put Bullitts on it as soon as I can find a Mustang at the carshow this year to steal them off of ;)

I was thinking of this thread yesterday when I bought two little hotwheels Sport Tracs at Kay-Bee -couldn't resist for a dollar apiece! :)

I wish I could find an '01+ Sport model (die-cast or plastic, doesn't matter), but all I can find is the Sport Tracs everywhere. I have tons of 1:18 scale die-casts, mostly sports cars, but I want to add an Explorer like mine to my collection. I would be happy with any scale though.
