View Full Version : lowerd in the winter time

Im going to drop my truck next weekend but I was thinking about winter coming up soon. Has anyone had there truck lowered (im going 2") and still been able to make it through winter. Do you think lowering it would make it easier or worse in the snow. When it snows here we only get about 2 inches or snow. I just don't want to spend the money on an alignment now then have to raise it back up in 3 months and have to spend money on another alignment.

also I have 31x10.5 r 15 on stock rims, bfg at ko's does any one know if I will get any rub with these tires. Im trying to wait to lower my X until I get rims but after seeing everyone else's lowerd its just so easy and tempting to do know.

With only 2 inches of snow you'll be fine with the lowering. You may actually handle better in the snow. However, you won't be able to fit your 31s unless you trim. Many people have to lift 2" to fit 31s, so I don't think they'll fit if you're lowered.

your name is rydin high and your going to lower? haha thats cool though. Ive lowered mine around 2 inches and winter is comming up for me to (i live in ohio) I dont think i will have any problems because my X lowered still has more ground clearance than most cars. Good luck on lowering.

I came up with the whole rydinhigh after being told numerous time that I couldnt drop my truck. thanks for all the help time to go be rydinlow lol

The way I see it, If there is too much snow on the ground to make it through with your explorer lowered 2", you shouldnt be driving anyway.

torque is also how far you push the snow thats caught in your air dam

we'll see how winter goes for me, although my truck will not be my daily driver.

I know i'll do fine with winter. I got my auto 4x4. since it doesn't stay on all the time while i drive, it shouldn't bind up my front drive shafts. Also, nick is right... my ex lowered 3 inches still has better clearence than most vehicles.

Thats why I'm gonna take my airdam and PIAA's off for the winter. I dont want it to be a snow plow and God forbid I hit a bank or something, thats about $800 worth of stuff right there.

I hope you plan on taking those 31's off before lowering, or else you'll be burning those down to 28's in about a week.

i'm actually looking forward to really putting my pirelli's throught their paces on slippery roads int he winter. minnesota winter is the greatest thing on earth, there are days when driving like your in the wrc is your only option

Last winter i had my truck with the torsion bolts completly removed and 3 inch blocks in the back and My truck was beautiful in the snow, No problems whatsoever.

ummm.......uhhhhhh........ explain? your transfer case fell off? you bought another X? yours was hung in 4-hi and you finally got it un-stuck?:confused:

I have that auto 4x4 garbage. Namitey found out how to keep the clutch from engaging when the rear wheels slip and when I met up with the ############### last weekend, Lizardtrac installed a switch for me. Now I have Auto 4x4, 4 HI, 4 LO and with the switch off I have 2 HI and 2 LO. I like it very much :D

I dont think its possible with an AWD transfercase. There is nothing inside that disengages. You could probably take out the front driveshaft.

ya i asked about this earlier. AWD is mostly mechanical, in the 4x4 ones, you select your mode with electronics, so it is easier to change.

With the 3" blocks werent you sitting on your bumpstops?

For some reason I actually have about 4" between my fenders and the top of my tires who knows

I had some 31's on some 15x8's once when i was lowered(only 1.5") and i had no problems at all

yeah, i know you can't do it. i just thought it was funny that you did that. i couldn't do it anyways, i can't get a moving violation for the next six months no matter what so the awd is on my side so to speak.

while on this topic of disengaging 4wd, i have a 4wd i can turn off with a knob, but i have traction control as well. Any way to turn this off? I can never peel out unless it is around a real sharp corner. For a while i couldnt figure out if hte reason i couldnt peel out was because my truck was really that slow or if i had some sort of traction control, and it says on the back under my Explorer Expedition logo, Control Trac 4wd or something like that. Is there a fuse to turn off traction controL? thanks

I'm pretty sure the 95 transfercase has 2wd, auto 4x4 and 4 LO. There is no 4 HI which is pretty dumb.

I cant do burn outs even in 2 LO. I'm not sure if its lack of torque or if its my scorpion zero's. I'll find out when I put my stock wheels and tires on for the winter. Either way, it will still be fun in the snow.
