There is an Explorer for sale I have seen along a local road for a few months now. The thing that is odd is it look like an XLT, except it has the grey fender flares and amber side turn signal lights like the european models do. It looks to be a 98 from the front and ford didn;t offer the Sport edition XLT yet, so I'm trying ti figure out where this truck came from..lol. It looks to be in nice shape and has been for sale for at leasta month. I may stop to see it some time since it looks quite unique. Also do the Canadian models come with with the same features as the european models?

It could be, or it could also be modified to look European.

I'd have to say that if the fender flares are the same style that are on the Sports and 95-97 Eddie Bauers, that it may be European. (As you know that the 98+ EBs have a different style fender flare). I think it's possible, however, to use the plain flares with the new center section (under the doors of the XLT Sport) together to create the European style flare.
Check the license plate mount on the rear of the truck, or the location of the shifter arm inside the truck (center console or on the column).
Another dead giveaway is if it's right hand drive.;)
Let us know buddy, and congrats on the new X.

Well it is definatley not a UK model because we can only get the 4 door 4.0 SOHC here unless special import. I think that in europe they also only have the 4 door. So maybe Canadian or just modded.:D

does it have "extra reflectors" on the rear bumper?
privacy glass?
are the fog lights a little different?
"factory"clear corners?
if so it's probably euro.
no boundaries
only british colonies [former] are right hand drive.

i think he is referring to a"sport package" for 4 doors. they have 16" wheels and fender flares like the e.b.models

The 98 Eddie has the same fender flares as 95-97, the new flares came out in 99.

The Canadian's exterior look exactly the same as the US Explorers.

Grey fender flares were an option on XLTs.
