View Full Version : lookin at gettin an explorer.......
burtonsnow 12-10-2002, 10:28 PM well.....3 days after finishing my truck i was hit by a bastard with no license.....
anyway.......im looking at prerunning an explorer and you guys know more than anyone. im thinkin 91-94(because of the beams) 2wd with a manul tranny. im scared of an auto because of problems ive seen with them......but i might get one and put a cooler in and a shift kit or something like that. also lookin at 4door for the longer wheelbase.
any suggestions? also, any pics or info you got on building hoops through the rear and in the cargo area would be sick. ill be doing the fab work myself....just like i did on my truck
thanks
Josh S. 12-10-2002, 11:00 PM Yo-
That link don't really show much. I tried looking through the galleries but that didn't work either. Anyways, I am planning on having this done eventually as well. I met a dude out at glamis who I will be having do my fab work. I will bring him the camburg beams, then he will do the rest. I am going to do it in phases because its pricy ya know?
First Ill have the front done w/ camburg cut/turned beams, engine cage, hiem-jointed extended rad. arms, swayaway racerunner 2.5" dual rate coilovers, bumpstops, and front bumper. Then, I will have the rear done, with deaver leafs, most likely saw bypass shocks into the cab with hoops and a crossmember.(or a 3 or 4 link setup). I am not quite sure which of the 3 setups I will be running in the rear, but when I am getting it done, I will let everyone know. After the rear is done, I will have it all caged up, front to back bumper with everything connected. It's going to be sweet. Just gotta wait for the funds.
I have had a few setbacks lately including rear axle bendage, brake problems, and minor front end susp damage. I am still recovering from these hits to the bank, but will return soon. Are you going to run coilovers? If so, what will your setup be? I have a manual tranny and I love it. Way more reliable for me than an automatic. Mine is two door, haven't had any problems with the length factor, I like the look of the sport and the manueverability offroad as well that it brings.
burtonsnow 12-10-2002, 11:07 PM those forums are being wierd......
heres what she looked like before the crash....
anyway, im going to run equal length beams and heimed radius arms, i have the coilovers and the bumpstops, as well as the fox shocks for the rear. also thinking about how i can go about using the national race pack that i had built for my truck on an explorer.

Josh S. 12-11-2002, 02:19 PM Do you mean because the weight is different in the rear now or what? Or you don't know what to use with it?
Black Magic 12-11-2002, 02:27 PM That is/was a great looking truck! Do you have any aftermath pictures? Sorry for you loss!
burtonsnow 12-12-2002, 03:27 AM heres a pic i have of what happened......and heres the only shot i got of my truck in action before the crash.....

Josh S. 12-12-2002, 06:17 PM damn that blows. Was it an offroad related accident or road? I don't know about the fitting of the springs in an explorer dude. I'm sure someone on here does though. I wonder if they would even work good on an explorer...I would think that they might not be stiff enough because of the extra weight on the ex rear.
burtonsnow 12-12-2002, 09:35 PM if they fit theyd work awesome. i had the springs built for the rear of a ranger, plus 2 spares, plus a toolbox and a fuel cell.
Agent_51 12-13-2002, 02:58 AM As someone who is considering the same thing, out of curiosity why do you want an TTB X over an SLA one?
Josh S. 12-13-2002, 12:19 PM What is SLA? I'll just assume you meant SA or solid axle... The ttb setup works great for desert racing style stuff, as I assume burtonsnow is into. The travel you can get out of a 4wd with the ttb is remarkable, and it will outperform a solid axle in the sand any day. True, solid axle is stronger and better for rockcrawling, mudbogging, and other stuff, but the ttb is just great in the sand. It has an independent feel, while still maintaining some sa mannerisms. With the proper suspension and radius arms, people can get up to or exceed 19".
burtonsnow 12-13-2002, 09:33 PM and the travel i can get form a 2wd is even better.....plus i dont want 4wd anyway. what i do doesnt require it, and it gives me less to hassle with. with i-beams travel is easy.......it leaves me with more energy to set up the valving and steering properly
cmurph93 12-14-2002, 04:04 PM I just happen to have a 93 4dr with 2wd and a 5spd. Email me if your interested maybe we can work something out.
