ok can somebody explain this to me.

My 4x4 options are AUTO, 4x4HI and 4x4LOW

So if my rear wheels skid out in auto then the fronts automatically engage. But if my back tires are spinning over 50Km/h then the fronts would engage at over 50 as well. According to my 93 you are not supposed to engage 4x4HI over 50km/h. So if i started to spin out at 55km/h as an example, then it would auto engage and Then my explorer just "automatically" F****ed up my 4x4 components without me asking it to. This doesnt make sense to me.

Is there a computer that tells it not to engage at over 50K?

I know your not going to like this, but search, its called control trac and there has been alot discussed about it, even a thread of how it works!! so search away!

I dont want to come off sounding like an ass so dont take it that way but I just took your advice and searched and nothing came up for "control trac", nothing came up for "control" and when i tried "trac" only 6 or 7 things came up including this thread so does anyone want to get a link for me about this discussion thread listed above?

Yes, the computer knows when to put power to the front wheels, and how much power to put up there. Its not like the 93 t-case where its just on or off.

BTW, I just searched for "control trac" and came up with over 400 threads.

Silverblade - if you are referring to your '93 you don't have Control Trac. Your choices are 2WD, High and Low. If you have something else, you might want to update your profile so people know what you have.

It is not recommended to shift into 4x4 Hi above a certain speed, I imagine because of the shock to the t/f case locking up at high speed. In Auto, the clutches engage incrementally, even at high speed. So don't get yourself into a frenzy Silver, your Ex will not break in auto.

My manual states that the shift between 4x4 High and Auto can be made at any forward speed. I have switched at up to about 60 MPH with no funny noises. Here's the page:
