What would cause this, replaced PVC valve, didn't seem to help much, I appear to losing about a quart of oil every 1000 miles or so, can not see any leaking spots.

I'm not losing any coolant, but oil loss is a concern.....serious problem? hard to replace? Rick 12-11-2002, 05:53 PM By the MAF tube I assume you mean the intake tube leading to the throttle body? If so, it sounds like excessive blow by which would be a problem with the piston rings not sealing well. Could be a scratched cylinder wall, or rings going bad. I had oil on my plug threads when my intake gasket was bad, but any oil leaked from those would be burned in the exhaust and not pushed into the intake. ExploderBlues 12-11-2002, 06:12 PM Had engine totally rebuilt, I doubt it is bad rings, could be a bad gasket, I had bad information when I put back wires, wrong firing order, lots of backfire, thinking I could have blown the gasket then, possible? And thanks for all your help......any idea how much to have gasket replaced? Or could I do it myself? I'm relatively mechanical. Rick 12-11-2002, 06:21 PM To get oil up there you have to have blow by since the small tube that runs from the oil filler neck to the intake tube is a vent from the crankcase. Blow by in the crankcase is from leakage past the rings. I would do a wet and a dry compression test to verify if there is a significant problem. If there is I would go back to the rebuilder. ExploderBlues 12-11-2002, 07:43 PM sounds serious rick, i have new heads and all new pistons, less than 10000 miles n them, im also using synthetic oil. ideas? thanks Rick 12-11-2002, 08:45 PM As I said the best thing you can do is to test using a wet and dry compression test. Remove all your plugs, disable your electric fuel pump and ignition, check each cylinders compression and write down the results. Do it one more time, but this time squirt some oil into each spark plug hole and record the results again. If you have bad rings in one or more of the cylinders the compression will go up as the oil temporarily seals the leak. SteveVB 12-11-2002, 08:59 PM If you just had your engine rebuilt you shouldnt have oil on any of the plugs. I would do a compression test as Rick suggested- your rings may not have broken in correctly allowing oil by the piston. Oil deposits in the combustion chamber can contribute to pinging- a vacuum leak would also. Put a vacuum gauge on it see what happens. You need to have someone go over the engine really well. Compression test, scope etc see what they come up with. Good Luck |
