View Full Version : my parked X got hit
EliteConcept 12-11-2002, 10:10 PM well i was parked at my girlfriends house tonight and my girlfriends mom back out of their garage and backed into the passenger side bumper/fender. bent the side of the bumper in and caused a bump to pop up towards the middle of the bumper. and banged my fender up pretty good. also created a big gap below the turn signals and the body part below that.
heres some pictures, open a new browser window and copy and paste the address'.

88vert 12-11-2002, 10:20 PM Sorry to hear about that Elite:(
EliteConcept 12-11-2002, 10:21 PM if i was parked that wont affect my insurance will it?
88vert 12-11-2002, 10:22 PM Your girlfriends moms insurance should get it.
EliteConcept 12-11-2002, 10:23 PM good because i can't afford a insurance hike!
88vert 12-11-2002, 10:25 PM You should not even have to call your insurance company:D
EliteConcept 12-11-2002, 10:29 PM didn't plan on it heheeee good thing then eh?

The insurance will probably just replace it with a re-chromed one, but they can be hammered out in the middle....with a BFH, and a lot of pounding
EliteConcept 12-11-2002, 10:36 PM any way i could con the body shop to get a limited editon bumper for me, i have a 93 ranger air dam on my truck under my bumper.......maybe i could get a 93 limted edition bumper, you think?

If you have friends in the body shop, or just get a payment for a new bumper, and use that to buy one....
ya just ask her for the cash.. no need making waves with the gf's mom =) tell her to give you the cash for it and that way her insh dont go up =)
EliteConcept 12-12-2002, 02:43 AM she's already offered to pay for it....but did decide to just have insurance cover it....since we don't know the exact damages....
hmm i don't know i guess i'll see what happens....
i'll have pictures in the morning you guys can tell me what you think
VairKing 12-12-2002, 02:53 AM As long as just the bumper is messed up, you should be able to replace it without a problem. You can have your bumper fixed, banged out, ground smooth, and rechromed, but I am sure it would be cheaper to go to a junkyard and find a (limited) different bumper. If she hit it hard enough you may want to replace the bumper brackets as well (do front bumpers have brackets? I just know that the rear ones do) Good luck, and I would do as the others say and get cash and go junkyard shopping :D
You could straighten the bumper and just put a limited bumper cover over it.
Mbrooks420 12-12-2002, 06:35 AM any way i could con the body shop to get a limited editon bumper for me Some insurance companies just cut you check. So you could get whatever you want. You'll still have to call your insurance. If you weren't in the car and were parked legally it couldn't possibly be your fault. So your rates won't go up:D This same thing happend to a friend. He got a new bed for his rusty Toyota.
mattadams 12-12-2002, 09:37 AM tell her don't worry about it, she can have her daughter make up the cost by "working it off" LOL just kidding, I wouldn't recommend telling your girlfriends mom that! LOL.
EliteConcept 12-12-2002, 11:08 AM pictures posted on my first post
88vert 12-12-2002, 11:11 AM I love that airdamm Elite, that is sweet. At least it did not break any lights. That should not cost that much.Is that factory color?
EliteConcept 12-12-2002, 11:15 AM i don't think so cuz lots of things lead me to believe its been repainted
88vert 12-12-2002, 11:19 AM I was just thinking you might be able to find one at the junk yard the same color.where did you get the airdamm?:D
EliteConcept 12-12-2002, 11:21 AM the air dam is from a 93-97 ranger 4x4. It damn near fits perfect..but i won't lie to get it to fit like it did i had to take the bumper off and line the air dam up and drill new holes in the air dam and bumper....took about 3 hours to get it the way i wanted....but i think it was worth it! not ever day you see an X with a ranger air dam
88vert 12-12-2002, 11:24 AM I should be able to find one of those pretty easy:D
EliteConcept 12-12-2002, 11:27 AM yea! Just go to the Ford dealer, tell them you need a 93 ranger 4x4 air dam in medium opal. should be around $40. i preped it then with plastic prep cleaner. then i primered it really good. then i got some paint adhesion promotor from autozone and sprayed it on then followed with my color coating. then clear coat. you might even want to spray a coat paint adhesion before you primer....overall its held up good no major paint chipping
88vert 12-12-2002, 11:28 AM Thats all it cost?Thats cheap.:D
EliteConcept 12-12-2002, 11:46 AM yep $40 plus the costs of your paint, which mine were about 20 total....so 60 for a cool ass air dam, and if you want lights, explorer pro comps fit right behind the holes.....they are pretty cheap too
Stephen 12-12-2002, 03:33 PM Actually, I'm going to guess that the Limited bumper is going to be cheaper because its plastic as opposed to metal, the added expense is going to be that the Limited cover will need to be painted, something the insurance won't figure in.
EliteConcept 12-12-2002, 08:47 PM well the limited bumper is a metal bumper with a plastic cover right?
i wouldnt feel very secure with a plastic bumper....i'd feel like a honda....hehehe
if i cant score the limited bumper
i'm probably need a new fender...so when they paint that i'll have them paint my air dam, and rear deflector....
MONMIX 12-12-2002, 08:53 PM For some reason when I clicked on the links I got " page Unavalible "
Straighten the bumper ? Not hardly. Believe me I have tried. Yeah , the body shop should be able to work with you if ya wanna sawp for another bumper.
EliteConcept 12-12-2002, 08:56 PM copy and paste the address into a new broswer window....
swap for a new bumper?
cool...on mine the black strip is double side taped on, and i got some rust goin on......the sucky part is that it took me 3 hours to get that air dam to fit on the bumper....damn it!
Stephen 12-12-2002, 09:15 PM Its a standard bumper bar with a plastic cover.
And if you'd been in a Honda you may not have had any damage lol ;) The Explorer doesn't have 5mph bumpers.
Fish Man 12-12-2002, 09:23 PM you may not have any damage but....youd still be driving a honda :p :p :p
EliteConcept 12-12-2002, 10:35 PM you think the limited bumper would be cheaper or more than a regular bumper....being theres no chrome on the limited ones
88vert 12-12-2002, 10:43 PM First you have to find a limited bumper:D
EliteConcept 12-12-2002, 10:59 PM yea that would be the only set back
oh well at least i'll get a new shinny bumper at the least eh
Stephen 12-12-2002, 11:28 PM The bumper cover will be cheaper because its plastic as opposed to steel, it may cost more to install because the bumper bar is probably different, and it will have to be painted. Then you'd have match issues and all, I say go with the chrome one, I think it looks better on the first generation Explorers anyway.
Kwille 12-12-2002, 11:31 PM Depending on what kind of girlfriend she is( you know a serious thing ) I'd tell the mom to forget about it. Big time browny points.:D
EliteConcept 12-12-2002, 11:31 PM well i'd do that but being in college and trying to pay for everything is hard enough. and i don't think i'd like having the dinged up bumper and fender if i decide to sell it...which i will probably do in about a year or so....
but yea stephen i'm probably gonna do that.. Thanks for your input i appericate it ! i hate those indecisive moments i have..hehehehe...
EliteConcept 12-17-2002, 04:57 PM yayyyy
the insurance man just left ....and i found out that they are going to replace my fender *with a ford fender* and bumper *with aftermarket* and the metal body peice below the headlights and above the bumper. paint and blend the fender. give me a rental car too. best of all i get to go to any body shop i want. i'm very pleased besides the fact that i will have to take my air dam off and remount it and the aftermarket bumper doesn't please me very much but oh well its all good
MONMIX 12-17-2002, 08:50 PM My experiance with aftermarket bumpers on Fords have not been too terrible.
( fenders ,hoods and headlight doors have been a nightmare )
Good luck man , hope it looks great !!!
