this may sound like a stupid question but I am not familiar will all the components of a vehicle. When someone refers to a "door post" where is this located?

I think its the structual part between the front and rear doors. the post that your shoulder seat belt is attatched to.

The " actual " treminology is

either A pillar or windshield pillar. This is the very front post / beam

B pillar or door pillar ( even though a door also bolts to your A pillar ) This is the very center beam

C pillar , or quarter pillar. This is the rear , incase you did not catch the secquence.
