Here's an idea. Why not meet at Truckhaven next weekend with the rest of us?

Where's a place to off road in so cal? something mild, that an X w/out a lift can handle. Nothing serious just fun.

Hungry Valley OHV area is probably the best and really fun for stockers. Also Rowher Flats and Drinkwater Flats are fun.

Or as mentioned above, come out to Truckhaven this weekend with the entire group. The place can be fun for any size rig and is only a few hours from LA.

You can reach all of them by taking the I-5 freeway. Look up Hungry Valley OHV on the web. It's right off the I-5 near Gorman.

Drinkwater Flats is an area in Santa Clarita off San Francisquito Cyn. Road.

Rowher Flats is near Canyon Country off the 14 freeway and Sierra Highway. Look it up on the web too.

All are designated off road areas and have lots of trails.

We can set a trip up to one of them. There are a few other members here that will join us too I am sure.

I can't make Truckhaven as I will be in Vegas that weekend. :cool: Jefe and Dave (OffRoadin44) and I did the Rowher Flats trail back in September. It's probably the toughest trail I would take a stocker out on, as mine made it, but there were some parts where it was a little questionable. All in all though we had a great time.

Next weekend (the 22nd) is the AZ run, so I'll be out of town

The orignal engine never died but I stopped trusting it after 268k and it was making some pretty strange noises. It's still my beater/hunting/fishing/hauling and eventaully 4x4 vehicle so it has to be reliable and the engine was a good first start before it's on 35's and too tall for the average engine hoist.

Heeeeeeey guys sorry i have not been on in a while. Let me tell you school is not treating me nicely right now. That is the reason I have not been on. Well we got the transfer case motor replaced and so ready this time for some fun for sure. Umm what else. Tim motor looks good. We need to get together you guys can finnaly se my new toy also. There is a slight chance I might go out to Rowher flats with my boss this Wednesday if anyone is interested.

Honestly I'm gonna say most likly no. but maybe.

Let's talk tomorrow to see where we're at. It should be rutted and soft up there (more difficult) after tomorrow's rain.

Joe did your truck make it up the very begining (or end I guess) of that trail. I didn't feel like pushing my luck there last time with knowing a jeep broke something going up. and you took of your rear sway bar right?

No worries, we'll get out there again soon, maybe Jefe and brother can make it with their group. I try to go out there or somewhere local at least once a month.

I really want to go to Miller Jeep Trail after the snow melts.

I made it up that first section with only a little trouble. And my boss's Cherokee did it as well. But, doing it right after it rains is a real challenge. I took my rear sway off when I put on the Emu springs, and I always take the front off to help a little.

My first time on Lockwood we had no idea where Miller Jeep trail was but wanted to find it. There was about 2" of melting snow on the trail in some spots. . that was exciting:

We never made it since my friend was open front and rear at the time, and even I was strugling in the mud with the rear locked.

I'd love to do that again. . more equipt. I just need to fix my front locker first.

Hey what size are the wing nuts you have on the front sway bar links? Thats what you guys have done right?:rolleyes: and do you ever have a problem with the cv's binding? Original I had my t-bar about 1/2" higher but they binded really bad so I brought them back down.

This month will be diffcult for me to get away next month will be no go at all because I'll be getting married first weekend of april and be on my Honeymoon the following two weekends.

I have done nothing to my front sways, yet. I have just gotten good at taking them off and on.

My CV's rarely bind, only at full lock on pavement, sometimes. My tbars are up about 1.5".

Well, at the last minute (like always) we threw together a meeting of the Midnight 4wheelers Club. Jefe, Jason (Isuzu Rodeo), and myself just ran Rowher Trail.

Jefe skipped only the very first section since he's 2wd for the moment, but did very well. Jason was trying out his new Detroit Electrac locker, they already had a recall fix so he needed to check it out. We arrived at the summit around 12:30am. Had a great time.

Sounds awesome. I'll have to do that sometime.

Fudruckers is off of the 210 Freeway in Pasadena. Take the Michalinda exit. If going west go straight ahead off of the off ramp into the Sears parking lot cant miss it. If going east take a left off of the offramp and then another left on michalinda under the freeway and another left onto Foothill to get into the parking lot. Fudruckers is on the corner of Michalinda and Foothill. Great classic car show. If we have it there we will not be able to park in with the classic cars but right out side of the roped area next to it. I used to take my 67' cougar up there before I sold it.

just idea guys.

I use to run Rincon Shortcut Trail all the time. This trail is 26mi. and goes from the 2 (angeles crest) to the 39 (azusa canyon) or vice versa. You need a code to get in but its free. no 4 wheel needed although shale rock in spots. The only spot they may give trouble is there was a tree down last time I went trough there about 6 mo. ago I had to be spotted under it. I don't think jefe truck will fit. Although it may be gone now. This trail is not much chalange but good views and alot of fun.

I was just thinking of this sence you we're talking of meeting in Pas. and wanted to go play and jefe was only 2wd. Really good first timers trail for those who are dead stock and want to get a small taste.

Los Coyotes is a little far for a day run (for me at least).

I'm currently 2wd with zero flex up front but If you guys are up for a trail I think I could manage Rowher trail or some other "Difficult" Trail. :D Deer trail is closed down right now. Or we could do Hungry valley (Gorman area), but that's pretty far for all you guys.

So lets plan for a run on Sat July 19th from ~10a ~ 4p and then dinner at Fudds in Pasadena?

I think I'm gonna head out to this one if my truck is back operational in time...Don't you just hate it when you finally have your truck back and you F it up after only a few days?!:confused: :eek:

Yeah, its gonna be 95-100 deg. on Saturday. My brother and I like to run the trails at night, so we were thinking we could do a run up Rowher trail after dinner, as opposed to before. Anyone else up for that? (leave pasadena 8pm, be on trail by 9, and back on the pavement after midnight)

As for dinner: 6pm again?

I think we'll head up the backside (near bouquet reservior). We've had problems trying to get in from the Rowher flats side late at night.
As to when we'll start, It really depends on how long dinner goes. If you want to PM me a number I'll call as we're leaving pasadena.

Rode shotty with JoshS today and found out after a 2 hour drive that Los Coyotes is closed due to the fire situation in the area.

While bumming around Warner Springs some guys in a nicely built jeep invited us to run with them. Here are a few samples. :D

I wasn't near email this weekend. Wished I could have gone. How was the Rowher night run?

Rowher was great! It ended up just being Jefe and myself, and our start time got delayed a couple of times. (Had to drive some party-goers home from my house, and Jefe had to rescue my son from a dead battery)

But the night weather was perfect with the top and doors off. Jefe made it fine in 2wd and no front flex, maybe he doesn't need that whole SAS thing. :D

So, we didn't actually hit the trail until 10pm and got back around 1am. But everyone had a great time!

I will catch up with you guys one of these times on a night run.

I was on a hike in the Frazier Park area Sunday and got back to the car early enough to do the Lockwood and Miller Jeep trails since I had a lot of my recover equipment with me. I had a buddy with me and there were a few other groups doing the trails too so there was help available if I got into trouble.

Everything went fine but we were taking our sweet time getting to Miller Jeep that it was 8:00 pm by the time we got to the start of Miller Jeep. On the way down to Lockwood flat we saw a few quarts of oil in the trail and sure enough there was a Ranger parked under a tree with his oil pan cracked. There was nobody around it so we figured they got a ride with someone else.

On the way up the trail we saw a nicely built Jeep parked on the side with nobody around and his pedal lock on, looked like it would be spending the night there too.

At the top of Alamo Mtn. there was another trail of oil that lasted for about half a mile and then stopped, the driver must not have known. But we looked for anyone that may need help but never saw who was leaving the oil behind.

The trail was more difficult than I remember, it looks like a lot of vehicles have gone through this year and have
really exposed a lot of the big rocks that constantly grab at your undercarriage.

I put a nice dent in the medal housing around my front axle, thankfully that was it.

I float between LaCrescenta and OC where I work, kind of a 50/50 thing since traffic sucks between the two most of the time.

Short notice, but I am going with some buddies in their jeeps to either Lockwood/Miller Jeep Trail or Rowher Trail tomorrow morning, probably be at the trail bewteen 9:30 to 10:00 am ish. I always do these last second trips for some reason but if anyone is interested I am going with a small group to Rowher flats in Canyon Country for a run tomorrow morning.

I finally developed the film in my camera going back to May. Here are most of them with some explanation:



Here is a co-worker of mine going up Gold Mountain in Big Bear. We went up with his family to a cabin he has near Fawnskin for some trout fishing. We were frustrated after a fruitless 3 hours of fishing so we decided to run the trails with the time left. Nice Jeep with a 3 inch lift and 32's but he has since this pic been rear ended which totalled out his Jeep.

Here's another buddy of mine with new 33's on a 98 Jeep at Rowher Flats. His factory LS in the rear was doing little so he had to use momentum to get up...which did not happen. "Things that broke" pics coming.

Here he is a little farther up...as far as he got. His front was actually on the way back down from popping up a few feet.

This is where it got interesting. He was backing up to pick a new line and gave it too much gas and up he went and the bank. He was on the 2 passenger side wheels for a moment but came back down. He tried back and forward but the Jeep threatened to tip each time. So we tied a tow rope to his role bar and held him upright as he went forward.

I made it up the section above no problem :D and waited at the top for the other two to take the bypass. But they never came up. So I drove back down and found this:

He had cracked his pumpkin so out came the duct tape which held the whole way back.

On the way back down the white Jeep kept hearing a "bang" under his car. Turned out to be a broken rear shock mount.

The other Jeep in the group lost 4 wheel drive on the way out. The culrpit...broken front driveshaft.

High Center rescue.

There has been a lot of fires up in the area lately. Here is one of the reasons. On the middle right of the pic there is a burned up buggy that took out a few hundred acres.

1 week old disco going up:

Disco straddling. He gave the newly leased vehicle quite a workout.

Solid axles does not necessarily mean flex.

A lot of wheelin deserves a reward.

Well, Jefe and I have done that run too many times to count (majority of them at night!) We've never broken anything or gotten stuck (even when I was slightly modified with 33's, 2" coil spacers and stock L/S, but I did have to try a couple of different lines until I made it through)

However, the last time we ran it with some friends, there was a guy with a broken rear driveshaft stuck on that first hill. He obviously didn't have a clue, and was trying to fly up the hill "like on TV".

Well, Jefe and I have done that run too many times to count (majority of them at night!) We've never broken anything or gotten stuck (even when I was slightly modified with 33's, 2" coil spacers and stock L/S, but I did have to try a couple of different lines until I made it through)

However, the last time we ran it with some friends, there was a guy with a broken rear driveshaft stuck on that first hill. He obviously didn't have a clue, and was trying to fly up the hill "like on TV".


The carnage was as you said just a matter of trying to fly up the hill.

Hey it is great to see that people are using this thread still. I started it a few years ago to hopefuly network some of the thoudands of explorers in so cal. I now drive my cougar and my dad drives the ex. I will try to stay in touch as much as possible but with school i am pretty buisy. Hey Mike, Tim, Jeff... how you guys doing? Jefe and I ran Rowher Trail last night to try out the new suspensions. Jefe's new solid axle is performing BEAUTIFULLY! I've still got to get the new longer shocks installed and move a brake line. Now we are running out of rocks and obstacles tall enought to flex on.

We should both be making the Los Coyotes run on the 18th (assuming the new D44 axle gets here this next week, as scheduled). Then it's Moab on the 22-27!

Jefe's truck is looking good.

Got any pics of the additionally raised Jeep? That things gotta look like a beast now.

The suspension and new control arms look great, but the 33"s look too small. (At least that's what I keep telling the wife :D )

I'll get Jefe to post a picture or two. But the last couple of trips we've only been taking pictures of his rig. (No one cares about just another lifted J**p :( )

Hey Stic-o! Yeah, it's me. I remember your truck too, it was near the end of the row at the Carl's Jr. I had the green Ranger with the shell on it. I think at that time it was bagged, but then the following year I raised it prerunner style also. I just sold it a few months ago and took over the Explorer from my wife, and have been going crazy with mods to the point she won't even drive it anymore!

There is a lot of debate over square vs tube sliders, most say the square stock is more bash resistant than tube but lacks the trick look of tube. A lot of it probably has to do with the wall thickness of the material you're dealing with.

I'm gonna go ahead and start the discussion on the proposed March 13th run, since some of you don't check the boards as often as i do. Here's my thoughts on trails:

Rowher: its close, but as the T-shirt says "been there, done that"

Miller Jeep Trail: Gorman/Frazier Park area. Trail is a climb from ~4000 ft up to almost 6000 ft (if I remember right), so its weather dependant. Would be challenging for stockers, with the possibility for rocker damage on one hill. We can also play in Hungry Valley if we start early and/or run it quickly.

Last Chance Canyon: Red Rock/Jawbone/Dove Springs area (out past Mojave) trail heads up a wash, with both rock crawling and high speed areas. very doable with a stock explorer (not so doable with an H2 :p ) As with Miller, we can go play in Dove Springs or Jawbone afterwards.

I've got pics on my website of all of these trails.

My vote goes to Miller since I haven't been up there recently.

Miller sounds good but we may run into some snow still, which would make it interesting. ;)

My problem is, I'd like that :) I'm not so sure you would. I've been up there when it was snowy/muddy, and my friend was open f/r, so we had to turn around.

I just called the Mt. Pinos Ranger station and they say that Lockwood/Miller is closed until at least mid March, probably April. Do you have another way in there Jefe?

Also if you want snow we could Big Bear now. Though maybe a little too much snow.

I didn't know that they actually "closed" the trail. I don't remember there being a gate on the trail anywhere.

I made the mistake of going up there too early last year and there is a gate just past that first small creek crossing before the Lockwood creek crossing. I don't know if they lock it from the top of the mountain at the other end.

What is odd is that the Forest Service closes the Miller Jeep trail due to snow but not the John Bull. :rolleyes:

If we're going to do Miller, I'm going to probably want to bum a seat from someone. However, once I get my apartment taken care of (which looks to be on track for the first of March), I'm going to start building the Jeep. Lift, tires and lockers (rear at least) will be first. So if I can't run with you all in March, I should be able to get out there in the summer.

I was just in Jawbone/Dove Springs all this past weekend dirtbiking. It wasn't bad weather during the day in the flats, a little cold/snowy up near the top of SC65. Me and a buddy went up that trail around 2pm on sunday up to the cabin trail thats maintained by the Gear Grinders 4x4 club. We ended up getting stuck in the snow/ice/dark and got back to camp freezing our freakin asses off at 8pm. It was damn fun tho

We were camped on the lower aqueduct road, just south of SC51 where that little water tower is.

Truth be told... after getting up at 4am and working a high stress job all day and getting home at 6pm I'm usually not in the mood for anything other than web wheeling.

There are other considerations like space (plenty of it, none of it flat) my neighbors (try arc welding in the back yard at 9pm) and I'm still paying for all the tools I buy.

Everytime I get a plan together something comes along and screws it up and drags it out further. I think that my latest plan is a keeper and don't forsee any changes that will prevent progress in 04. Hope to have it going by mid summer.

Thanks for lookin out, I just wouldn't have anywhere to put a work bench.. at least not anywhere flat. There is a work bench in the back of the garage but I like to do all of my welding and cutting toward the front since I don't like breathing the byproducts of either process and both set the garage smoke alarm off. The two trash can plywood thing works great, don't knock it till you've tried it. Once I cover the plywood with some metal it will make a crappy welding table that won't burn... as you can tell from the condition of the plywood the current table tends to get set on fire a lot.

The funny part is that the back yard is flat but inaccessible from the front due to 2 non running cars blocking the access. I'm gonna flatten out a part of the front area once it stops raining, shouldn't be too big of deal with a rototiller and a shovel. Meanwhile there is a trunk sitting in the garage that needs a new clutch that isn't mine and I'm not getting paid to fix it so my motivation is zilch but it still needs to get done and I said I would do it. :rolleyes:

It's kinda a funny but I miss all that crap. When I lived at home I'd be work'n on the truck every weekend, not because it needed, but be cause I love to tinker with it. Now:( I have no where to tinker unless I go to my In-laws (every 2 weeks for laudry). I'm dieing to get a house so I can have a garage again. But thats still a few years off.

Did mine on '96 2.3. No air all hand tools, never even jacked the truck up. (4in. lift and 31's helped;) ) Never touched exsaust and never touched the fluid part of the clutch. Did it in a few hours. :D Once again if you need my....nevermind I think you get it.:rolleyes:

yah, haven't really used the cutter...or done any fab work for that matter since you were over. Ill hafta throw some tabs on purty soon for some limiting straps in the rear, so I'll cut em w/ the plasma. hehe, and don't worry, its safely tucked in my cabinet, the former home of the welder.

Yeah parts all over the place. I burned up my 21" computer monitor and had to spend transmission money on a flat screen so yet another delay but nothing that's gonna stop me from putting the axles under it.

Do you have any big jack stands? I finally semi leveled a work area in the front yard and just need some big jack stands or decent sized chunks of wood to put under the little ones I have. For some reason there seems to be a big price jump when start getting into the 24" and over jack stands... I might just go buy material and build my own. :D

Hey guys, this is my first post, and just wanted to let everyone know there is one more exploder junky in Orange County! I have a 97 2wd with 3" spindles, aal, 2" torsion twist, and 31x10.5's It's currently in pieces in my garage as it's getting a 3" Body lift and spring over in the rear to fit my new 35" Pro Comp x-terrains = ) I decided to just go ahead and skip the whole 33" phase and jump straight to the big stuff. And a word of warning to anyone attempting a body lift on a 2nd gen, it's a @#$%!!!! We just keep running into one snag after another (it's been in my garage for 4 days running). But if anyone is attempting it and needs some help, I now own every tool and have the knowledge it takes to perform one. One of my buddies who's been helping me out with all the lifts has gotten so addicted he went out and bought a 3" lift for his ranger and is taking my 31's, talk about an addicting hobby! Anyway, once I get my rig back up and running I'm going to take it out for a run on Indian Truck Trail. Anyone is welcome if they so choose to come, it's a nice easy trail possible in a 2wd but has some wicked side trails we wouldn't do in a 4wd jeep. Feel free to e-mail me at gemrox888@aol.com

Jefe have you ever run the trails in the San Emigdio mts? just down the road from Lockwood? I saw a 4 mile trail up there listed as "most difficult" by the forest service and a handful of other trails listed as "more difficult." May be interesting with the bit of snow.

The 33's ARE sitting patiently in the garage, and I was going to check around to come up with a reasonable price. I haven't measured yet, but I believe the four are still at least 50% tread, and the spare has never touched the ground. If anyone is really interested, they are BFG A/T KO with approximately three trips to Moab and five trips to Truckhaven on them. Make me a resonable offer. They are not mounted, since I decided to keep my old rims. (No, Stic-O, I can't afford to donate them!)

I was a little concerned…:eek: I doubt that it would’ve caused any serious harm to the occupants but getting it out of there in that soft sand would’ve been ‘interesting.’

I'm by no means an experienced wheeler but from the perspective of an experienced passenger (Steve’s passenger at that point) I'll say that out of all the runs I've been on with anyone that was about a close as I've been to flopping.

If his rear end had continued sliding sideways like his front did, he would have been over in a heartbeat. Luckily Tim and I were able to keep his rear end up on the hill, while he swung his front around to face downhill.

I thought it wasn't to bad but I was in the truck the whole time. Lets just I had a gut fealing that if I got out the truck, it would have gone over. If you look at the pic. you can see the rear susp. lifting. I slid pretty good, and after seing the pic. I can see why. It was a lot softer then I thought it would be there. And if it did flip? She would have been on her top, in a cayon. Then we would have to drag her out on her top!:eek:

A rear shock ripped off the axle. . .its just strapped up to the frame for right now. I didn't feel like breaking out the trail welder since I didn't like those mounts to begin with. Plus the other side is about to do the same thing. :rolleyes: Quite a ride with no shock :bounce: :bounce:

So I went to temp the shock back into place, and noticed that I only had ~2" of up-travel on it, as opposed to the 5" on the other side. So I got out the ol' yard stick to find out that I've only got about 2" of lift on that corner of the truck now. :rolleyes: Lets see, 2" of lift after a SOA (5.5") and shackles (1.5"). Ok, so the springs only saging 5" from stock. . .not bad :eek:

with my new springs its crazy how much more power I'm feeling at the rear wheels. much more immediate transfer of power to the rear wheels it feels like. a lot easier on my ujoints too.

Yes, axlewrap is an issue. I feel it, but its not horrible (not that I've seen it). The Deavers should improve on it dramatically, even with it SOA, since it is two full leaves with a military wrap.

LOL. . . they'll just have to put a 2" block under the high side :D Actually I was looking at it tonight and noticed that the low side is S shaped right at the axle, so I musta axle wrapped it pretty good somewhere along Last Chance. Probably one of those times I forgot to put it back into 4wd :rolleyes:

I understand the deal about borrowing tools and benders are heavy enough to make them a pita to break down and transport around. I live in Chino and am looking for a place local to wheel for an afternoon. Also, where i can go alone if i have to and not have to worry about any problems. Id appreciate any feedback. Thanks.

I moved to OC in October and so far these guys have taken me to Los Coyotes Indian reservation (mild to wild), Big Bear (mild to wild) and also to Truckhaven (out by the Salton Sea).

I dont know of anything closer, but I do hear there are some places around. :)

If you wanna have a little fun you can always run up to Azusa Canyon. On the weekends theres always tons of trucks up there. It mostly all Mud but you can wheel around a little too. If you get stuck theres always a lending hand somewhere. It's also fun just to sit back and watch all the fools! :rolleyes:

To get there just take the 210 west and exit Azuza. Take Azusa Hwy 39 north up into the caynon (SGV Canyon) When you see a big bridge and a sign spliting up the west and east fork your just about there. Take west fork and it just above the bridge. (SGV OHV area) Just north of there there is a fire road that you can take all the way to Hwy 2. It called Rincon shortcut. about 26 miles of twisty dirt roads with good views. You'll need a pass and a combo.

So when is Fudds? I think Mike has a new Jeep to show us :)

taknitezX2-there's a place off of the 91 and Maple that has some easy wheeling. its fireroads with little trails branching off of it. let me know if you wanna go sometime cuz its purty close to me too. I've been there by myself without problems b4, but I feel uncomfortable cuz cell reception is spotty at best. I always feel safer/better when I have friends along. getting stranded is no fun, which has happened to me in my friend's truck when it broke down. little water, and quite a hike back home, but luckily Thunderhorse came and saved the day! :)

The place of Maple sounds cool. Not to far from me either. Could u hit me up with some directions or is it pretty obvious?

very scenic drive, a big change from the city streets...its in the cleveland national forest, so if you wanna park and go hiking or somethin, you gotta display a wilderness pass. a lot of the driving is done on the sides of cliffs, so go f'n slow around the turns. some kids haulass up there and fly around blind turns, which is vey unsafe with those cliffs there. watch out and be safe. in the evening hours, the sherrifs like to fly over and shine their spotlight on you and tell ya to get the hell outta there, just trying to prevent crazy stuff from happenin on friday and sat. nights. anyways, hit me up if you want the tour. I've had a lotta fun up there haha.

Yup, I've got a new Jeep to show you all. It's a little nicer than the old one. :D Actually, I haven't sold the old one yet and may keep it around if my insurance company gives me a nice multi-car discount for having it. I fixed the overheating problem (I wish all car trouble could be solved with a $2.50 fuse) so I'll have to get it out there on the trail sometime if I hang onto it (I should find out in the next couple of days).

Anyway, as for when to get together, Trckmagik's brother is going to be out here the week on June 8th-15th to look at some apartments since he is moving to LA in July. Maybe we could plan something around then and he could meet the SoCal crew.

Edit: Nevermind, Dave can't do the 12th. He'll have to meet us when he moves out here then.

Hey So Cal crew. I would like to ask you all for your opinion. I currently have done the TT and shackles on my 2wd X. I have order spindles and they will be here this week. What should i do for rear suspension? My front is 1-1.5 inches higher than the rear, but i dont want my truck to sit with the butt up. Will doing the SOA conversion match the front or will it be higher? i dont mind if its a bit lower. if so, where can i buy the conversion kit and could i humbly ask one of you so. cal. guys to help me install it? Or should i just use an add-a-leaf? Thanks for any help.

Yeah, the jack stand blocks were made by the same jackass who made the wooden welding table so there's no telling when it's gonna fall. :D at least if it does fall it will go toward the tires and hopefully give said jackass a few seconds to get out from under it. :rolleyes:

If I had a dollar for everytime I've set fire to the wood welding table on trash cans someone else would be building my truck the right way for me.

I've known that I need a set of tall jack stands and I have all of the tools at my disposal to build a set but instead I take my hoisting beam out of the garage and cut it into little pieces to put my short jack stands on top of.

We won't even go into how long I've been talking about building a truck. :frustrate

Right now it looks like the day will be June 26. Fudds in Pasadena for dinner and possible a run during the day at the Miller Jeep trail. We should probably figure out who all wants to get out on the trail on Saturday. I got rid of the old XJ but would go if someone has an open seat. I might be in Vegas that weekend though. So we have one guy with no truck who might go if he's in town. :rolleyes: Anyone else? :p

Well, Felix and I live in 29 palms, which is about 10 miles from the town of J-tree, and I'm always happy to wheel. However, currently I'm missing some of the more expensive required gear, like tow strap and CB. I usually just stick to little fun runs that don't take me too far from the beaten path or Cell phone range.

Well, after spending 12 hrs working on my truck Saturday (putting in the knuckles I finally got and fabing up new steering linkages) getting my truck ready to wheel my friend and his GF backed out, and Johns kids decided they were too tired so we decided to "reschedule."

Well all my buddies have dropped out now. So it's just me and a passenger or two. Maybe we could take one of the side trails off Lockwood like Yellowjacket, but I don't know if those are much of any fun.

I do also know of one other trail, not far from Miller that is "Most Difficult" rated that should be a short enough detour if we have time. It's by Pine Mountain about 15 minutes from Frazier Park.

The first time I tried Miller, we ran Yellowjacket and The Mine Road. The only good thing about that trail is the two mines close by. (One is a good 200' horizontal shaft. The other is caved in) Other than that it was only fun because it had a couple inches of snow/ice/mud on it. I have no problem running it for the scenery though.
I was planning to play around in hungry valley once we finished Miller. Play on the obstacle course if its open, or go find a short trail to run.

That was a fun trip. Miller is always a good time but I actually had fun at the 4x4 course too. I've never really spent any time there.

Great pics so far but I'm on dial up right now so I'll check most of the pics out tomorrow.

I've been digging out miller boogers all day long from the dust. :) Since you were behind open diff Steve I'm sure you guys inhaled a lot more dust than we did.

I didn't get any pics of Jeff whoop-dee-doos but I was thinking at the time that it would've made a great video with the way he was going. I should've asked him to do it again and shot it with Steves video camera... oh well maybe next time.

woohoo I was out all weekend at the MDR400 in Johnson Valley. Great times, awesome race (my first), good pics(35mm), and good beers. Sounds like y'all had fun too. Unfortunately I broke off my lower shock mount so my shock was hanging off the whole way home, oops! Back to running w/o shox again :fire:

A little bit. I got rear ended in the company vehicle on the 5 North so I'm a little sore and moving slower than usual plus I'm down to the nitty gritty sh!t like reaming out the tie rod and pitman arm for the 1 ton TREs, the tie rod took me 4 hours in a vice and I haven't even started the pitman... building the trac bar mount today.

Let me know when you stop by, I'll leave my 7 degree reamer out and you can finish reaming the pitman arm because after working it for 3 hours yesterday I still can't feel my hands which is getting in the way of other activities. :) I've also seen you eyeballing my pile of 2wd TTB parts and 2 piles of 235 tires... you can't have any of it. :) Someday it will be worth a fortune to the chinese as scrap steel. :chug: :smoke: :chug: :nono:

Took it back to 4 wheel and told them what a piece of crap it was. They could not bend it back after dismounting it. I can use heat , but then I lose the powdercoat. :frustrate: So I got 4wheel to give another wheel for cost and a spare out of there tire pile. So now I will have 32 on a slightly bent wheel as a spare to mount on my rear bumper when I get it built.

Ummmm if they work for SBC then they probably don't have enough money to reward you... but since SBC only gives free stuff to non employees it probably belongs to someone who doesn't work for the them... or maybe someone who does work for them but stole it... I dunno. :)

I've had the 700R4 AA adapters (engine to tranny and tranny to 5 bolt T-case) for ~6 months now. just been waiting for some extra $$ and for my 5R55E to complain. And at 90k miles, its doing enough complaining to allow me to put it out of its misery. ;)

I know that haveing a shop to it would be quite a bit of money but i dont really know to much about this stuff to go at it myself. Im looking into buyin them from someone off this forum, 'Crushin', who says the look to be in excelent condition and have about 20K miles on em. Im runnin 31s right now. Hes asking $75 shipped, what do you think about these? Also, any takers to help on the install. I will come to you and pay for the help. I live in Chino and will drive a bit. Thanks for any responses. Help a brother out.

If you don't know what you're doing, I wouldn't suggest doing the gears yourself. Personally, thats one of the few thing I leave to the pro's. Here's who did my 4.88's (they also did my brothers Jeep, and a friends Isuzu):

Its a hole in the wall shop, but they do very good work, and will have it done in a day. I believe that a solid axle, on the vehicle will cost you ~$150 labor, which is a great deal compared to 4x4 shops. Any diff off the vehicle is $100 labor.
If you ask around at the right places I'm sure you can find a similar shop closer to you.

Very sweet. When the time comes for my tranny it will unfortunately just be another crabby 5r55e :( (Or a whole new rig)
