My 93 has developed a hole in the exhaust and I'm thinking of getting the Flowmaster system as a replacement. Can someone give me an idea how hard this would be to install myself? I've never done any exhaust work before...

I have never installed exhuast before either and i did mine myself. I had access to a lift so it made it that much easier but mine came in a kit with everything i needed.

i installed a dynomax system and it was very easy to do. I drove the explorer up on 4 shop ramps then removed the rear passanger tire and shock to make it easier to remove the old exhaust and put the new pipe in. Didnt take long after that.

As long as you have all your pipes bent and ready it is cake. Don't forget a can of PB Blaster for the ruster fasteners.

IMO it is better to take it to a shop so they can weld the exhaust on (unless you have acess to a welder) bolt on applications aren't as good as welded ones......

My bolt-on Borla doesn't leak from any of the connections. Two of the connections connect in the same location as my factory exhaust did (and it wasn't welded). The only additional connection that is bolted that my factory exhaust wasn't was the pipe going into the exit of my muffler. No leaks there and I doubt if I would know it anyway since it is after the muffer anyway. All other connections are in the factory locations. If the connections were good enough for the manufacturer, they are good enough for me.

The Flowmaster install I did on my truck only took a couple of hours. (I had access to a lift) I had to cut out the old pipe and disconnect the rear passenger shock absorber to get the tailpipe in. The piece that bolts up to your cat will need to be trimmed. Take off about 4-5 inches. (measure to make sure) There is a small piece that goes in between the muffler and tailpipe for this offset. I didn't take enough off and had to use 2 clamps on the back of the muffler( 1 to hold it in place tucked nicely above the frame line and another on the muffler/pipe connection. It sounds really good and is not that loud even at speed. For $150 from summit it is a good choice. You need to check your bolts after a bit, but will hold just fine until you can get it welded.
