How can I remove tar without scratching the paint? In the summer the roads in town get so hot that tar comes up and stick to the tires, go too fast and it's all over.

I have had decent luck with Westlys bug and tar remover. It may take 2-3 applications but it should come off. Then just wash your X when you are done. I have never expierenced any problem with it dammaging the paint but you may want to try it in an un-detctable place first to be sure.

i use 3m adhesive remover stuff.... it kicks butt... but it says it may damage painted surfaces.. you have to test it first.... i think it will eat wax..... also, goo gone, or bug off work good as well....

I used the same stuff as jimabena74 suggested. It worked great for road tar on my X. It also removed tar that had been on a bike for over 6 years with no problem! According to the salesman at the paint shop, as long as the paint is fully cured it shouldn't damage the finish. It will remove the wax though, ( but that just gives you a reason to make the X look nice and shiny from a fresh coat of wax). Good luck and don't worry, it's not that bad of a job to do.
