i have noticed this really strange sound from my explorer. it seams to be coming from the front right suspension area / wheel area. As you know describing sounds is very difficult…….you can hear this clunking sound not very loud almost a rattling sound like one of the shocks is going out…..and it does not happen when you go over big bumps just small ones in the road...... you go down a road with small bumps and you just here this klunc, clunc, from the front right.....….my dealership say they took it for a drive and they cant hear anything…..yeah right its so noticeable…..

any ideas?

its a 98 4.0 4 door SOHC

I have the same issue, dealers couldn't hear it either. Had the lower ball joints replaced, didn't help. Finally had all the bushings heavily lubricated and that helped for a while.

do you know what it is thats doing it ?

I suspect its dry cracked bushings since the lube fixed it for a time.
