Another pinging thread. My 92 has done this since I've owned it. It does it only at cruise, not load or WOT. It sounds like it get's "turned on", starts pinging, then stops. Sounds to me like an EGR malfunction, but I can't find the damn thing. Is there an EGR?

The EGR Valve is located on the drivers top side of the engine. If you can't find it, repost and I'll go out and check more specific location. Just can't picture what else is around it in my head right now.

I just read in another post that there was no EGR thru 93 on the 4.0....
If I have one, I can't find it.

Not sure if there is a difference between the EGR and the EGR valve, but I just replaced mine a few months ago. That's the only reason I know about it.
It is located on a bracket on the top part of the intake. If you are looking at the side of the motor from the drivers side, it directly behind the oil dipstick and under the two throttle cables that go across the intake. It is a circular looking device.

There's no EGR on my 92.
I fixed the pinging (so far) by tightening the intake bolts a little and I fixed a bad gasket on the intake tube at the throttle body. I took it for several high speed runs that ALWAYS caused pinging before at cruise. (> 65 mph).
Next step is to top it off with 87 octane and reset the computer. Wish me luck.
