yeah i know what you mean. I got an '01 i bought 4 months ago with 13000 miles on it and the rear wiper and only hits about 1/4 of the window. I'm thinking of getting it shaved!:D

My '98 tends to miss a section of the window also. But, with a little bending of the wiper arm the problem is fixed. Just be sure not to bend the arm too much or you will start to scratch the paint where the wiper lands or you will miss the landing nub all together.

Heh, my wiper only hits about 1/4 of the window AND it scratches the paint when it comes down. $300 to get it shaved.

mine is doing the same thing....I've heard that what cause's that is that the spring is streached out.

and a fix was to take off the wiper and drill a new hole ( higher up for the spring) if I were to go the easy way and bend it where exactally should I bend it?

Yeah but when you hold it at the base is it suppose to shake(move)in any direction you shove it??

Mine does the same thing and so do all the others I've tried on random explorers.

The rear hatch was redesigned in 98. The window and door are contoured in both directions and the rear wiper is toatally different. Its like its mounted in rubber or something that lets it move around.

Someone on a earlier thread mention a lock nut back there which he had tightened. I am thinking that way because, how can it make a clean sweet if it is not positively located. If I dont find that nut I will check on the 3 screws that mounts the motor.

Let me know what you find out.

Only the 98+ must have that rubber part or something like X24 said, because first gen ones are solid, you can't even move the wiper up and down by hand, they are so solid....
