hey all, i just got a 92 Eddy used, and i keep getting a trouble code of 33(egr stuck open or bad) so i bought a new one at autozone to replace it, and wouldn't ya know it, i cant find the dang thing. im pretty sure its not even installed in my car. i checked the chiltons manual, but when i enlarged the pic, it was really grainy and pretty useless. ive attached some pics so if anyone can please help, id be much obliged.

I think that whomever you bought the X from has performed an EGR-ectomy.

It should be right where you are pointing the camera.
Wow, that's weird!
I dont even see how you can mount the EGR?

Unless it's a Cali truck, I don't think 92 explorers came with EGR.

ive heard some other people discuss that possibility. but if so, why would my EEC throw an EGR code? also, it is running like it is supposed to have one and doesnt(eg. even after an hour of driving, the engine temp gauge is still on the extreme left; i get terrible gas mileage - 6mpg; and sometimes when im idling in warm weather, my exhaust is very thick - im afraid i wont pass an illinois emissions test without fixing it)
is there anyone out there cool enough to post some pics of their working egr valves so i can maybe get the replacement parts and install one if my car does in fact come with one.

I was just looking at the schematics in my EEC-IV book Ford Fuel Injection and Electronic Engine Control. If the info in the book is correct, the first Explorer to have EGR was the 93 California model. The 49-state Explorer didn't have EGR and neither did the 91 and 92 models. So, youre not supposed to have it.
Don't know why you would be getting that code.
Have you tried just resetting the computer and waiting to see if the code comes back?

I would first try replacing the thermostat and the FPR. Ford may have introduced EGR into the computer earlier than they introduced the system itself.
Another possibility is that the code was read wrong. Did you read the code yourself or have someone do it?

If you are saying that your engine never warms up, I would check for a sticking thermostat. If you are running cold all of the time, it would affect your mileage.
I would fix the problem of not warming up (probably thermostat) and then reset the computer like Morrisey is suggesting and see if the code comes back.
