I'm going to do an TT/Shackel mod here soon and I want to get some new rims and tires. Been looking around and talking to my friends about it.... would 15X10 rockcrawler rims with 31X12.5 ProComp MT's tires looks good?
I'm wanting the tires to kinda stick out. What kinda backspacing would I need?

15x10 are probably going to be too wide. and will probably rub profusely..... 15x8 are the best for an explorer for most conditions...
i dont think the pro comp 31s are even available in a 12.5 maybe you are thinking of a 31x10.5? which is a much more popular size anyway..... they will still allow a wider stance, and look good under the explorer... the most prefered backspacing is about 3/75 inches.....

I see....I'm looking for the tire to stick out though, what about an 31X11.5 on 15X8 rims?

Are you looking for the tire to stick out from the fender, or stick out off the rim? if its in relation to the fender...you'll need to search for wheel backspacing. If you're looking for the tire bulging off the wheel look, then it is more the tire width vs. wheel width relation.
IF it is the tire bulging out look, go about 4-5 inches at MOST (5 is probably starting to push it) wider than the wheel you use.

Jus a warning, but if you have your tires sticking outside of the body, thetires will pick up ricks from roads and throw em onto your nice paint job unless u have huge mud guards. This is why a lot of people avoid having them stick out.
Jus something to consider if u didn't know.

I've decided to go with some 31X11.50 Kumho MT's on 15x10 Rockcrawlers. Should be what I'm wanting. Not tucked in, but also not sticking out too far. I just want a "meaty" look. :)

be careful with the 15x10s. they will probably rub. the 15x8s won't.

I was thinking the same thing, it may make the 11.5's look a lil too small for the rims
