It seems I lost the nuts that hols the radius arms on for a D44 - any idea what size/thread I need? The ones from my superlift don't seem to work.
Thanks!

View Full Version : Radius strut nut FMExplorer 03-01-2003, 01:53 PM It seems I lost the nuts that hols the radius arms on for a D44 - any idea what size/thread I need? The ones from my superlift don't seem to work. Thanks! J Hotweels 03-01-2003, 05:57 PM hmmmmm you may not want to hear this but i belive its a ford only nut :D j/k you will have to take the arm in and match it up at a bolt supply place, if i remember right its 1"and 1/8"th but dont hold me to that  FMExplorer 03-01-2003, 07:27 PM Yeah - 1 1/8 sounds right - and that is the size of the superlift ones too... I think I may take a wrench to it - I have wire-brushed the threads and washed the nuts (hey - no laughing), but I will test one more time. BTW - Ford locally no longer carries the nuts - NUTS! The other part is I am a bit freaked - truck slipped today and almost landed on me. Made me a bit skiddish all day today! :D  :redexp: J Brett 03-01-2003, 10:59 PM If memory serves me correctly, they are 1 1/4" nuts. You should be able to go to a hardware store and get some lock nuts that will work just fine. Brett FMExplorer 03-02-2003, 03:24 AM Thanks Brett! J ajevenson 03-02-2003, 07:03 PM What year RA's? If they are 78-79 its a 1 1/8" (exact same as your stock RA nuts). FMExplorer 03-03-2003, 04:18 AM They're from a '75 Not a problem - I need to run to the dealer anyhow. The only problem is I think I shipped the nuts with the old lift - DOH! J Muskrat 03-03-2003, 05:06 AM the ttb arms have metric thread, the EB arms are standard thread, not sure of the pitch though FMExplorer 03-03-2003, 08:03 AM That would explain why they almost worked when I had them :) Long weekend - I'll pick up some new nuts today... J BTW - Any of you who read that last comment and had anything but the purest thought, shame on you:smoke: :hammer: :D ajevenson 03-03-2003, 08:55 AM Originally posted by Muskrat the ttb arms have metric thread, the EB arms are standard thread, not sure of the pitch though Hmmmm. My TTB nuts threaded right on my 79 RA arms. Differences in years I guess... At any rate there are only 4 combos for the nut. Standard, Metric, Coarse, Fine. Yours will not be Metric(I guess), nor Fine thread. So hence you need a Coarse-Standard 1 1/8" or close to. Spend $20 on nuts and get the 1 1/16 up to 1 1/4 in Coarse-Standard and then take the ones back you dont need. <edit> They'll be a grade 8 equivalent, different grades have different pitches. FMExplorer 03-03-2003, 10:01 AM Thanks AJ J Muskrat 03-03-2003, 03:37 PM guys, the 1 and 1/8" is the size of the wrench, the nut is going to be smaller, I'm guessing somewhere in the 1" range. FME, measure the major diameter of the stud, and mark off 1" exactly on the threaded section, count the threads with in the ince, that will give you you're bolt size. I don't feel like crawling under mine right now, but I can almost garauntee that the thread is going to be standard size, fine thread. If you can't figure it out, I'll get my vernier and measure it tomorrow. Metric threads are totally different than standard threads, even though a standard hex could work on a metric hex and vise versa. There are many possibilities for eace metric size thread. BTW, grade 8, and grade 5 are not different pitches, they are hardened to different rockwell values, I don't know off the top of my head, but can find out. you can have a basic (non hardened 1/2" 13 NCT, and a grade 8 or 5 of the same pitch. if the pitch was different, it would be a whole nother bolt size. hey, my trade is actually paying off:D) |
