View Full Version : got wheel travel? RockRanger 03-09-2003, 01:02 AM more info on it http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=122477&perpage=20&pagenumber=1 I think it is defently interesting jimbo74 03-09-2003, 01:08 AM agh.... did it snap in half? no j/k i know thats not a broken pic.... but ma, that is way too much engineering... they should just let people walk that... it would be more interesting... thats not even a car anymore.... just a toy...... XplorerKid 03-09-2003, 01:09 AM                   um ok that is alot of flex lol PEACE burnin_up 03-09-2003, 01:13 AM The chain drive blows my mind...how does he split it to all four wheels, then control them individually??? Its f'in cool in my book though. jimbo74 03-09-2003, 01:13 AM its a forklift with wheels instead of forks........ Rick 03-09-2003, 01:46 AM From POR: The guys name is Cameron Carlson. He has been building it for the past three years. It's a wild design. If my cell phone holds out I will try to post more close ups. It's chain drive to all 4 wheels. It does things on rock that no other rig can do but it's too heavy to compete. The owner says it's only 5000K or so, but I see 7000 to 8000 lbs of steel there. It is truly a monster. You will all want to see video of this thing in action. Today it suffered majot problems, but this was the first time out of the garage. Each wheel is independently controllable like don robbins rig but with no axles he get more articulation than any solid axle rig can. The delta between front wheel is about 6 to 7 feet! Seems to have a little less travle in the rear, I only saw about 5'. I don't know it might have been able to do more. On the lake been it lowered it's nose and rested the engine on the ground, they lifted both tires up two feet off the ground. Then it dropped it's tires back down and lifted the front end over 4 feet in the air. Both wheels on each side are connected to a double jointed lever arm. It also had left and right drive, he could drive both lefts and or both right tires. Or front tires, or rear tires. mrboyle 03-09-2003, 12:43 PM I'm sorry, but why? I love rockcrawling, but things like that thing is a little overkill. dejello 03-09-2003, 01:20 PM That's just messed up man :D Rick 03-09-2003, 01:25 PM Originally posted by mrboyle I'm sorry, but why? Robb 03-09-2003, 01:38 PM This guy is an engineering SUPERMAN!!! Look through the pics, the hubs and brakes are up at the chain sprockets, not out at the wheels. Rick, or any POR guys...................did this thing just show up? Was this thing known before this event? It is as if this guy has redesigned the wheel............... Robb dejello 03-09-2003, 01:43 PM Originally posted by morrisey0 This guy is an engineering SUPERMAN!!! ..... It is as if this guy has redesigned the wheel............... Robb Cameron "who needs axles" Carlson Rick 03-09-2003, 05:51 PM This was the first time out for that truck It was 3 years in the making. Rick 03-09-2003, 05:54 PM Now if he just had hydraulics to tilt the wheel so it could pop back upright :D dejello 03-09-2003, 06:55 PM Now that would be sick... Hey, it's not like he doesn't have the clearance, right? :hammer: :D |
