If you order tires on-line, how do you handle the warranty issues and proof of tire rotation for the warranty? Local store wants $579 for mounting and balancing Michelin LTX 235/75r/15's.

Michelin's are not cheap tires. Your price doesn't seem to be too bad to me. At www.thetirerack.com (http://www.thetirerack.com) these tires are $112/each. That's $450 for tires + $40 shipping + $40 mounting. Total will be $530.

With the last 3 sets of tires I have purchased I have brought the price from the the web site to my tire dealer and payed $20/tire above the web sites price. I personally think that extra cost is worth the peace of mind of purchasing them locally if I ever have a problem.

Agreed. I went to 4 tire shops after puchasing some tires on e-bay. They wanted anywhere from 80 --> $97 w/o tax for mounting and balacing a set of 4. I finally went to Wal-mart and got it done for $44. The tires/wheels were not even on the vehicle -- which makes it easier for them.

I agree with buying them locally. Use the online prices as a wagering point at a local dealer. I'm looking at getting some 18's in the spring and the online price I got was $2000 w/tires plus $200 for shipping. My local Discount Tire quoted me $2200 installed, and they offer free rotating, balancing, etc. So as soon as I get some $$ I'm going to Discount Tire.
