Complete newbie to the forum -- going to look for a search option after I post this...

The ABS light just came on on my '99 Explorer. I had a previous bad service experience at my local dealer so I don't want to take the truck back there. I have a local indy mechanic that I trust, but was just wondering if this was a common problem for my car and what to expect when I take it in as far as potential repair costs.

First thing I would do is check your brake fluid level.

After that, the rear ABS sensor tends to be a problem with some Explorers. It is located on top of the rear axle pumpkin and is very easy to get to and replace.

Those are the only frequent problems that I know of.
