Went out to throw the KKM on in about 2 1/2 minutes.............15 minutes later, here I am.

First off, I have no instructions, bought it used.

Okay, I am sure I am just not seeing the forest through the trees here and the answers are simple. In the pic below, I expected the MAF flange (yellow) to mount to the tube (red), but that ain't gonna happen. The only thing that is going to mount to the tube is the stock box (blue). What am I missing here?:confused:

And while I am here, how does the other end of the stock bow (white) come out? There is some round type fastener attaching it to the inner fender and a couple of mounts at the bottom, but none of them are nuts/bolts.

For the rest of the stock box, just keep pulling. It will come out eventually. As for the intake tube fitting over the MAS, you sure you can't make it fit?

The MAF is 3 1/4" and the end of the tube is 4". I am sure I could "rig" up something on there to fill the gap, but there has to be a better may.

Somebody out there is bound to have run into this setup before.................

I find this whole difference in size mounting kinda interesting. The MAF seats directly to the inner ring of the stock box and the outer ring mounts to the intake tube..........there is an air gap between them. And since the disc of the stock box (where the MAF originally mounted) wasn't a perfect seal or anything IMO, isn't there air entering the intake tube that bypasses the MAF? Or maybe the disc did seal up to the box.:confused: I just don't understand why there are two different size flanges at the end of the box with a gap between.

Unfortunately, I can't help you with details, but I know on mine we had to rig up a system to make it all fit, and it works great.

Just so you know, rigging something is not the end of the world :)

There is usually a silicone rubber thing that goes over the end of the MAF and makes it the same size of the tube. All you do is slip it over, put the tube over it and tighten down the hose clamp, robb my friend you are missing some parts....(the kkm that is :D )

I was gonna say, for the $100 they get for a filter and a bracket, I sure as hell hope it all fits together without needing anything "rigged up"!

Yea, I figured I was missing someting to make up the size difference, or I just had some strange-a$$ intake tube. A little creativity with a v-belt I had sittin around and it is mounted nice and snug.

Next question, mine came with only one of the mounting brackets. From which corner of the MAF and to where should I be looking to mount the bracket?

If you are looking at the sticker that says the stuff about your A/C then will look about 4 inches to the left and there is about a 2 inch diamater hole, from that hole go torward the intake and there should be a screw/hole there that you will use.

I am goin off memory here when we did this to my buddies OHV, so I may not be exactly correct.

Robb, I had the same sort of problem with my 95. I actually managed to get the Intake tube around the MAF w/o and buckling of the tube, and it's nice and snug. As for the bracket, I ran it from the top screw on the plate closest to the front of the car and screwed the bracket onto the metal above the grill. It ended up working out fine. I hope you got the black bottom 'bucket' peice out. It took me about 45 mins., a couple of cuss words, some bloody knuckles, and eventually some tin snips to complete that task. Let me know if you need pics...

OK, I figured I'd post in this thread instead of starting a new one. I'm trying to install my KKM, and am getting frustrated. I have a '97 SOHC. I removed the top of the airbox lid, and the filter, but can't seem to get the bottom half of the stock airbox out. Do i have to do just like you guys instructed Robb, and just pull it? I'm hesitant to just start tugging this thing, as it seems connected to other stuff. Can I just install the KKM right above the bottom half of the airbox and leave it in?

The bottom is connected with a couple rubber grommets. You have to pull hard to get it out. You won't mess up anything though.

Just pull on it' its on there very tight/

Yes, just yank the bottom portion of the air box, it comes out.

To update this just for future persons who may look at it. The '95 (and maybe '96) 4.0L stock intakes are different than those on the '96+ (or maybe '97+) 4.0L OHVs. When you receive a '95-'00 (?) OHV KKM new, it will have an "adapter ring" with it. For the later years, with the smaller intake tube, this adapter isn't need. For the earlier styles, with the big tube like shown above, the adapter is needed.

I can't budge the sonuvabitch. Would it be a big deal to leave it in and have the cone sit in it?
