I did a search and found RA bushings are a source of front clunking over small bumps.
But then i thought i read 98 and newer don't have them.

I have to investigate and try to solve this problem this weekend. Haven't looked at my haynes manual yet

I'm sure it's a bushing of some sort

The dealer replaced all my ball joints and the clunks were still there. Then they replaced both upper control arms and gave it an alignment and it has been quiet ever since.

dont know about the 98, but my 96 had a recall on the sway bar end links. when i replaced them, they were clunking like crazy. it could be many things, but it wont be radius arms. 95-up X's are IFS, and dont have these.

No, you don't have the RA bushings. One thing that does go and causes clunking is a little patch on the torsion bar that wears out. Search for Kevlar patch (or is it Teflon? can never remember exactly which it is) and you should find info, even pictures that Robert has posted.
