Ok,
I just went out to check something out under the hood, and when I poped it, a FRIGGIN GIGANTIC RAT was just chilling up on the intake!! I jumped about 2 feet, while he just gave me a stupid look. I slammed the hood, and he scurried off. It was bigger than a squirrel, for christs sake! I have never had rats, or mice where I live, this was damn freaky!! UGH! The neighbor was standing outside and saw it too. They dont speak real good english, but managed to spit out "That was big huh??". Ok, done ranting now...just thought id share. :D

you need to put some rat poison under your hood...

back in 2000 my mom's 00 F150 went nuts. multiple CEL, rough idle, poor performance etc. finally took it to the dealer and a field mouse got under the hood and chewed up ALOT of wires. $800 later and everything was basically re-wired underhood. see this as a sign, take neccessary precautions now!

Did it look like this guy? He popped out of the sewer line and is now a pet.

My dad had a cat crawl up alongside his engine block one summer night down at Chesapeake. Needless to say, he drove all the way back to Charlottesville (3 hours) in the VA summer heat... hehe... That cat was slightly more than well done when he got here... That was one of the grosest power washing we've ever done

The same f-ing thing happened to me! About ten years ago i had this '70 MACH1, and where i lived there were a bunch of stray kittins running around. Well aparently one of them cralled up in my engine compartment, you can guess the rest. For about a week i couldnt figure out where this God awfull smell was comming from. I finally found it and got a pair of plyers and pulled it out. I kind of felt relieved and sad at the same time.

I was looking for parts on an old car in some guys backyard. I open the hood and there's a huge stinkin' badger! The badger had built a nest on the engine and wasn't too happy about me disturbing him. Needless to say I slammed the hood and got the hell out of there. The owner said he put a few rounds through the hood after I left.

Sorta like in the movie, "Goodfellas" when they had that guy in the trunk...

I had an opossum living under the hood of my S-10 Blazer, wile it was dorment.

Had it runnin' one day heard Bzzzzzzzzzzz KLUNK

and I saw him ( her? ) fall from underneath and run away.

Well if you call what opossums do as runnin'
it is kinda like a high paced mosey.

My personal favorite here in florida is checking for lizard stains on my belt. They perch there overnight to absorb heat from my radiator, and when you start it in the morning, one will occasionally make it to the wrong side of a pully or crank and leave a nice stain on my belt that sicks around for a few days. You can also turn it into a game to see who can kill the most in a week.
Okay, I will keep my sick habits out of the boards :D

I hate rats. I would never open the hood the same again:(
I went camping in the mountains once and left my doors open for a few hours. A few days after the trip I turned on my ac and a bunch of foam pieces flew out. I was like WTF? Then about 3-4 days later I was driving and I saw a mouse drop out of the dash on the passenger side dash run right across my feet and climb up into the dash under the wheel. I freaked out. I pulled over in a grocery store and was screaming and banging on the dash when I looked over and saw a whole family staring at me like I was crazy. I tried leaving my door open for a few days but it would'nt leave, so I trapped him. Oddly enough I don't think it damaged anything but the foam vent surround.

Hmm put rounds through the hood isnt very smart. Think engine block. Ricochets suck.

my dads vette was sitting for 7 years at our last house. was cleaning it out or something one day and we realized that there must be mice in there. ended up trapping like 6 mice outta there. just the other day i found a nest in the drivers side door panel (5 years later)...

I've had chipmunks in mine. Freaks built a next in the heater tubing and destroyed my first heater blower. A couple hundred in repairs later I keep mouse traps in the garage.

No ricochets if you're using a .50 caliber like in tremors :shoot:

I had a rat under the hood of my old Buick Skyhawk. It chewed through some of the wiring under the hood so the car wouldn't start. I popped the hood and a rat the size of a cat jumped out. Scared the CRAP out of me! My dog got ahold of it though and that was the end of the rat. :D

My mom once had a squirrel store its winter nuts under the hood of her Jeep Cherokee. Luckily, the squirrel didn't meet its demise under the hood, but the engine did when the acorns caught on fire from the heat of a long road trip

MBrooks,

Thanks for the tip. Next time I go camping windows UP and doors shut.

The .50 cal can still skip a round into an unknown direction. YES it can go through a block but if it hits in an angle it could easily glance off into who knows where. That round is so damn heavy that it could easily hit someone or something far off. Especialy since the commonly available ammo for it is not AP at all.

I like how we're actualy discussing the physics and dynamics of a round through the hood (and a big ass badger) and its possible ricochet...

Cats used to be inside the engine compartment when my dad used to start our old station wagon, but they somehow always made it out in time......9 lives I guess.

I've never seen any rodents where I live. The reason why could be that we have so many snakes around here. Snakes and cats are good defenses against rats and mice. That's the reason. But then you have snakes. :) Yeah, we no longer have mice, moles, or chipmunks. But that's because 3 of my cats are very eficient atr bringing home "presents" that nobody wants. they killed all the little stuff so know it's just birds and an occasional rabbit.
