Can someone explain to me why it is necessary to disconnect the battery when working on the car?
Not in terms of clearing the memory, but like when you do a body lift or something...or some other non-electrical related mod...

The main reason to pull the battery leads is for safety. When lifting the body to install the body lift you may stretch a wiring harness you might not have found/loosened.
Always better to be safe than sorry!

It's done as a precaution in case you accidentally cut/unplug a wire and it shorts to something and fries the computer. Old adage of better safe than sorry.

Safety...yes, yes...
Here's my quandarry though...
I've got a negative terminal quick disconnect (a twist type) and I saw in the Jegs catalogue, the same thing, only with a fused lead on the connected side that you can earth, so you're settings on your radio aren't lost...
I'm just wondering how this would affect everything (it's a 30 amp fuse...)
Any input?
Thanks for the replies though...

Also if you are working near the steering columno, and accidentally hit an airbag sensor... Let's just say, you WANT the battery to be disconnected so this doesn't happen.
