View Full Version : Explorer differences around the world
PUR PONY 04-03-2003, 12:50 PM I am starting this thread to gather info about other explorers around the world... not just the USA ones.
Info I would like to know is....
which contries is the Explorer sold in? and what are the differences on the exterior, interior, engine, colors??
I know the UK version has a console shifter which is pretty neat. Did any explorers across seas come with different style tail lights, or diamond clear headlights? thing like that ... that maybe we could find and adapter to our trucks here int he states??
does anyone have any websites on NON-US explorers...??
thanks
DarkFox1 04-03-2003, 02:54 PM so far I know of.. japan, australia, I think england, although the new X isn't
What I did.. its very interesting, go to ford.com and go to the "select your country" listing, and you will find all the countries fords are sold in.. and then from there you can find the many interesting and cool fords that aren't sold here lol
look at this ranger from the UK
http://www.ford.co.uk/spg/images/intro_3_28_0_739.jpg
ford still makes the falcon in UK and Aussie too
sorry heh, I guess this was a more "fords around the world" than explorers.. I do know tho that the 95-01 X was sold in more countries than the 03, I assume cos the new X is too large for the small streets of some cities.. although japan still has it
brokenman 04-03-2003, 04:25 PM Those Falcons from Australia are badass, I read somewhere we might start to see a couple of those foreign models, including different versions of the Ranger and of a possible new gen of a Contour
Check out the T-Series from Australia, packed with a V8 Windsor 351.... heaven. They have much nicer options than us.
FourXFred 04-03-2003, 04:48 PM that 4 door ranger kicks ass! i want one so bad!
DarkFox1 04-03-2003, 07:13 PM it must be bigger than our ranger.. I think thats an 03 X front end with a different grill..
ya its nice, too bad they drive on the wrong side of the road :P
alfcapone 04-07-2003, 01:15 AM They where sold in Sweden but i dont think they sell them any more, mine is from Germany where they still sell them.
This is how mine looks , all stock (http://www.cardomain.com/member_pages/view_page.pl?page_id=312867&page=3)
Mike_H 04-07-2003, 01:22 AM I'd like to get a uk ranger with the 2.5l diesel! or maybe a aussi falcon hi-raise ute!

Forget the T-series look for the ford performance vehicles(FPV) these things have the 5.4l v8 and upto 400hp the ute has the 5.4 with 350 hp we also have what is known as the XR6 turbo 4.0l straight 6 325hp
all based on the standard falcon 4.0L 6 245 hp all rear wheel drive i believe ford aus is working on a AWD
as for the X i think we only get 4.0l sohc &4.6l v8 both with control-trac no 2wd or AWD V6 ssince 1996 V8 2002
in xlt & limited with T-bar auto or 5 speed manual we could get the xl in 97-98 not sure about other times
the only other vehicles we get from the USA are f series
& the taurus i have seen a few probe but they dont import them anymore may be they dont make em now
we have a race series here called V8 supercars that you might see on cable over there it is based on the local Ford & holden(GM) cars if you get a chance check it out
these things hammer 5.0l v8 ohv limited to 620hp
7500 rpm rev limiter top speed over 300 klmph on road & track courses no OVALS
as for driving on the wrong side of the road may be it is you blokes who are on the wrong side of the road:-)
Mike_H 04-07-2003, 12:23 PM I watch the V8 supercars on the speedvision, I always cheer for the falcons! NASCAR has got to be my least fav form of racing.
Check out the website for the ranger in the philipines. On the site they list all sorts of specs like approach and departure angles even max water crossing depth. Also the truck can come stock with a snorkle..... or well atleast they used to i was checking out ford's site and i couldnt find that info again. I think they might have stopped offering that stuff with the new model ranger. :(
Jon Burns 04-07-2003, 01:32 PM Whats a Falcon? Never seen one here.
The Ranger that's sold here is a totally different vehicle to the Ranger sold in the US. AFAIK it is built somewhere like Malaysia and uses a different base vehicle. It is smaller than the US version. I think the only similarity is going to be the badge.
My two penn'orth
dan swedish man 04-07-2003, 01:35 PM They where sold in Sweden but i dont think they sell them any more, mine is from Germany where they still sell them.
yeah, also all i've seen here in Sweden are Eddie Bauers - few exceptions are imported ones...
AlaskanJack 04-07-2003, 08:27 PM Well here is an Explorer enthusiasts website in Germany. They refer to gen 1 Ex's as XP1 then XP2. All german 90-94 Explorers are Limited's. Exploristen.de (www.exploristen.de)
I know there is someone on this website that has an Explorer in Crap where was that. The German site has people all over Europe; Switzerland, poland, Spain etc. It seems like the guy on this board is from Romania, yes that's it Romania!
alfcapone 04-08-2003, 01:26 AM I haven't seen a single one, all i have seen lookes like mine and mine are not an EB, not that i know anyway...
OZexplore 04-08-2003, 08:30 AM hey JON this is a falcon
http://www.fordperformancevehicles.com.au/index.asp?link_id=2
the hot version check it out hope it works
ps we build cars the way we play cricket, soccer, rugby league, etc you know what i mean dont ya jon:-)
dan swedish man 04-08-2003, 01:41 PM Dan: Have you seen EB's i Sweden?
Jorå, all the ones around here have that hideous plastic trim.
wish mine hadn't.
(mine also from Germany...)
alfcapone 04-09-2003, 02:01 AM Hm...Correct me if im wrong but the plastic trim isn't a sign for an EB, an EB's as i know it are always in a two tone color and often is the lower color some kind of Beige (and im not talking about the color of the Plastic), and the havn't sold the EB 's i Germany either according to "www.exploristen.de", so i guess you have an ordinary German spec "limited" like the rest of us, AND THATS NOT BAD :D Mine (http://www.cardomain.com/member_pages/view_page.pl?page_id=312867&page=3)
dan swedish man 04-09-2003, 03:40 AM OK - my bad :)
Howard 04-09-2003, 04:25 AM You can look at mine here (http://www.hdcomputing.co.uk/explorer/my_explorer.htm) . Standard UK spec except for the steps and bar. 4.0 SOHC 5 speed auto with 255xR16 tyres as standard.

now THAT's the trim i've got, and most explorers here in the south of sweden!
you got that auto level system in the back too, huh?
DarkFox1 04-09-2003, 03:45 PM can I have your corner lenses? :D
Howard 04-09-2003, 03:47 PM Dan
Yes I have the self-leveling rear suspension
Fox
No!!!! I'm using them. You should be able to order them from Ford though.
DarkFox1 04-09-2003, 03:48 PM ya think so? I've pondered that for a while.. as to whether I could get japan/british spec lenses direct from ford...
Howard 04-09-2003, 03:50 PM I don't see why not they are all made over there so they must stock the parts. :D
OZexplore 04-09-2003, 07:17 PM mine is the same as howards
