Why do you Ford people feel Fords are better than Chevys, and vice-versa? Whenever somebody asks me why I don't like Chevys / feel Fords are better, I don't have much to say. Anybody have any suggestions?

i am not a "name-brand loyalist". i can understand liking one brand more than another, but i have never understood people who think one brand is better than the other.

Well, I'm not a GM fan because their interiors are very poorly designed, and use ultra cheap materials. The body gaps, materials, and just overall fit and finish are horrible IMO. Also, most GM vehicles are just plain bland, lots of cheap gray cladding on the exterior. IMO most GM cars look like the $19.99 special at the rental car agency.

IMO GM tends to over expose their vehicles. Take the new Caddy Escalade for example, they now have 3 versions of it. What the hell for? The Escalade EXT is a rebadged Chevy Avalanche, and the new Escalade ESV is a rebadged Suburban. I know Ford also rebadges cars, but GM does this to the extreme.

It's not that I dislike GM because it's GM, I don't like them because of the product they produce.

My $.02

If you ever owned a Chevy you'd have plenty of reasons to say Ford is better.

Here's one Chevy story. Girlfriend had a 90 Corsica. Left front flexible brake line was replaced prior to her ownership...backwards. Eventually, the tire rubbed through the line, and her brakes failed in my driveway. I blame Chevy engineers. No matter how good you build it, nothing helps inferior design.

I don't particularly care for GM products, but the truth is that all of the manufacturers have their successes and failures.

I agree with the comments about the cheap interiors and blandness, but thats just my opinion.

As evidenced in the other thread, some people take these kind of arguments way too seriously. Its just a car (or truck) - basic transportation.

When someone says Ch*vy, or Dodge... I'm not thinking about cars. I'm thinking about trucks.

I think all three manufacturers make great trucks. I'd drive any of them.

I totally agree, I had a Dodge Dakota R/T last summer for about 2 weeks until extenuation circumstances ended that. It was from what I saw an AWESOME truck. It had some balls. I am not a brand loyalist, I am more of a domestic loyalist. I am not a fan of imports just because you cannot beat american power IMO. I think we are really gonna see some ridiculous reasons in this thread about why people like ford better...let the show begin :D

Wow, that last post was really good, "not a name brand loyalist but a domestic loyalist" I like that alot.

As for trucks I think they are all basically the same
SUVs, Ford seems the most reliable
family cars, dont even care about
Sports cars, I love mustangs but then again I love camaros, chargers, chevells, vipers, vettes, cougars, dusters, the list goes one for ever.

I say that each company has certain things to be proud of and certain things to be ashamed of *cough V6 auto tranny(AO4D or sum crap like that:confused: )

I have always been a chevy loyalist b/c my dad drove their pickups, corvettes, and camaros. We currently have a 1990 silverado and that thing is built to last. Only money that is spent on it is regular maintaince. Since i got the Explorer for my b-day I realized that fords aren't bad cars either so now i like them also. When it comes to sports cars and trucks i'd have to go with chevy though:D . So maybe they have bad interior but thats not really why you get a sports car is it? All about power IMO. Also favor an domestic over any import.

Haha...you better like it b/c you have a very nice slice of cake.

I'm not bias to anything. If I like it, I'll get it, if not, then I won't get it. But I prefer having Ford SUV's more than others because I really like its designs. For a family car, nothing beats a Honda Accord. I truely truely love them. In fact, there're two Accords in our garage right now. A '98 EX-V6 with 63k miles and a '90 EX with almost 195k miles. The '90 has no problems at all. *knock on wood* For a pickup, I prefer the Chevy Silverado. It's very nice!!

So that's my opinion on my choice of cars.

AMEN!

[chevy rant] ok, heres my anti chevy rant. i had a 1996 S-10 with 43k on it. 2.2litre, automatic, extended cab. Good looking truck, and i loved the seats. Before it hit 60k, i replaced (under warranty) the motor 4 times. 2 blown head gaskets, and 2 just complete mechanical failures of the everything. At about 50k the upper passenger side balljoint fell out going down the road (actually, it broke in half) and i slid into a ditch. Tranny went on my way to canada (about 4 miles from the border). Replaced the alternator, starter, battery, EVERYTHING to do with breaks, etc etc. Finally at 60k miles, the upper left balljoint (replaced by genuine goodwrench idiots) went again, but instead of hitting a ditch, i slid off the road at about 40 and hit an oak tree. WAY WAY TOTALLED! [/end of chevy rant] this vehicle was owned by my grandfather, who drove it like a grandfather would before i owned it. it wrapped from day one, and i decided to have it looked at. thats when the thing went down hill. way down hill.

Um from what this thread has shown me.... i see people stuck with lemons, or just a bad exprience... I've driven a few GM products... and a few fords... Got lots of friends with dodges and foreign products...

If it were me, i'd take a later model ford... 7.3 PSD.. Chevy's new Duramax is too new, as well as the PSD 6.0... Dodge looks don't impress me, but they got a killer motor.... Brand loyalist? Nah... I'll buy from any brand, based all off what they show me... I've got people owning fords, chevys, and dodges, and many have positive results... I could care less what people own... Many people get too wrapped up and it just annoys me b/c it seems like people are too close minded to see the positives of other brands... Like one bad experience makes em go stale...

I like em all! I've owned Ford,Chevy, Dodge, Jeep, Olds,
Caddy,Peterbuilt ect. Ran my 57 chevy over 300,000mi.
Had 250,000mi. on my Ranger. I am loyal to american built cars. My Ex. is the newist I've ever owned and by far the hardest to work on. But i still love her.

I chock it up to good vs bad experiences...

for instance.. we own 2 fords.. they both have had signifigant tranny problems in the past 6-7 years, neither have broken 100k or even broken 80k miles.. ford doesn't care, ford wont try to care.. we dont plan on ever getting another ford unless ford does some major caring when it comes time to get another vehicle.

on the other hand we and our family have had chevies for a very very long time, most of them if not all of them have their original transmissions or have been rebuilt optionally during a restoration.. all our chevies are well over 100k miles.

thats where brand loyalty starts.. when you have a new buyer like myself, having a bad experience like I have.. and having an auto maker who could give less of a d@mn about you.. you start looking for alternatives..

thats my .02 on the whole thing. Personally I like both brands appearance wise, ford just has no power and terrible trannies and terrible "I dont care" customer service as my experince goes.

I agree..

In 76 my dad bought a brand new dodge street van w/a 318 he replaced the motor 3x, tranny 1x, 4 different carbs and 2 rearends in 3yrs then traded it off for a toyota wagon, 1 engine, and numerous fuel carb issues traded it off for a 84 Merc gran marquis ls.. 350K miles later, 1 topend rebuild, basic maintanace, new tierods after a deer slamed the side, it's still going strong.. I had a 71 impala ss 1 engine, 3 trannys(kinda expected;) ) . A ceby luv pkup which was an electrical nightmare and 1 tranny. a 95 dodge stratus(first yr production) front caliper fell off doing 60mph, molding peel off, 1 engine, 2 trannys, 3 inner cv (driverside), rotor probs, and an endless list of interior and body probs. A 95 contour 130K on the clock and the lifters just started to tap a couple of months ago, no probs, the X 50K and still going strong.

I've driven my father inlaws 3 different cheby trucks and everytime they break down.

I just have better luck with blue oval

but my brother on the other hand has had 2 fords and nothing but prob's. His 2 cheby trucks one at 200K and one around 65K and Thoe at 50K no probs...

Go figure I think it's the luck of the draw
or the way you talk to it before you buy it. :D

in my post, i never said i loved fords however, just that i hated chevys. my expierences with my explorer, my ranger, and my thunderbird have definitely made me start to lose the faith in the blue oval. my mothers expierences with her 2001 ranger and ford pretending that the front end isnt gone, after 6 times to the service department has left me with a bad heart about the dealers and the company. ever notice that ford has craploads of recalls? and dodge, whel, ive never driven one that id ever buy. im probally actually going to go with a toyota tacoma after colege gets out. there made in america now, so i have a little more respect with them, and ive never heard of anyone having problems with the taco's.

i dont really know why, but i really do hate chevy trucks. ford is my favorite for trucks but i would definately drive a dodge truck. personally, i only like 1 car from each of the 3 brands.....the viper, the mustang, and the vette.

I have the same opinion, just sit in a F150 and sit in a 1500. F150 has much more eye appeal. I have to feel comfortable and like the dash layout if I'm going to drive it everyday. If your going to dislike something, atleast have a legitamate reason.

Unless you talk about 60's muscle cars.
Then I like
55-57 Chevy
Camaro SS
Chevelle SS
Cutlass
and Mustang

I don't feel strongly either way. Don't get me wrong, I love my Ford, but I wouldn't bash a Chevy just for being a Chevy.

I have a Ford, Chevys, and Hondas sitting in the driveway right now....and they are all great vehicles. I geuss i'm not as brand loyal as some, I just have what i like and if it doesn't perform like I think it should then I get rid of it.

As for the interrior thing peopel keep mentioning...I have to say I don't notice it. I liek the interior of the new CHevy's...and the new fords. As far as my explorer vs my moms 1500....not a whole lot of difference as far as one being nicer than the other.

My reason for dislikeing chevy's are:

no creature comfort.
bland interiors.
no real personna to them.
overheat much easier than ford does.
do not last as long.
are not as dependable.
feel cheap and lightweight compared to ford.
interior parts break easier and become brittle.
and the list goes on.............

My reason for likeing ford:

Very personable interiors.
Soft touch interior panels.
better styling inside and out.
One word: Torque.
Saftey rating.
Dependability.
Look better modded.
smoother styling.
etc, etc,.........

Not exactly brand loyalty, just the facts. i've owned over 45 cars and trucks of all years and models. my favorite from gm was my 1995 gmc yukon 4x4. the rest of the gm trucks i was not impressed with. i do however like every truck ford makes.
