Rydin Dirtay 04-29-2003, 01:51 PM aiight i got thrown out of a doctors office the other day. the lady at the counter was a biatch. i was going to get a wart on my finger burnt off. yuck i know i dont like it either but anyway i was there and i told her i didnt have an insurance card on me... it wouldnt matter because your company does not issue cars with our individual names on them. it just looks like a normal buisness card. she refused and so i told her i was on the same insurance as my father still, so look up his file and get it.. she did reluctantly and found a photo copy of my fathers card.. it looked exactly as i told her.. so of course she wasnt going to let it happen.. then she went on to say she didnt know why my father was allowed but i cannot accept anyone without a valid insurance card... as the story reached its climax i lost it.. havent lost it at someone in a long time. anyway it resulted in 2 security guys with a tree stump for a neck dragging me out by whatever they could hold on to.. i got a black eye and my ribs are on fire.. but i got a few good punches in. anyway who here agrees that the lady at the counter was on the rag?
MO_GUY 04-29-2003, 01:55 PM maybe im wrong....but i dont think you had any right to go off the handle on the lady....maybe you could have had her call your insurance company to confirm you were still on the insurance....i would be embarrassed to do something like that in a public place
Rydin Dirtay 04-29-2003, 01:57 PM i gave her a contact number, they gave her my ID number and my Social for verrification. she spoke with an administrator and i heard him say its ok go ahead and let him in. and she did not, she was also pissed off because i was on the phone when i walked up to her at the counter. and she blew up on me when i said this is ****ing rediculous. i realize that i might have acted a little rash, but ive always had a bad attitude twards snobby rich ppl. i was in scottsdale.. no offense rick :)
had a bad attitude twards snobby rich ppl.
She was a receptionist..............I doubt she was rich.
Dude, seriously. If you need to be dragged out of doctor's office by security guards.................maybe a little "anger management" is in order. Just my opinion.
DocVijay 04-29-2003, 02:06 PM Policy is policy. I don't think she did anything wrong. It may be frustrating, but that's why there are rules. A doctor's office is a private business and works just like any other business. You may not want to hear it, but you got what you deserved by loosing your temper.
Also, being a secretary in a doctor's office is not a high paying job, so I don't think her being a "snobby rich ppl" was the case.
Just remember to bring your insurance card next time.
Rydin Dirtay 04-29-2003, 02:06 PM yeah not rich when she drives a bmw thats worth more than my house. and is married to the doctor that probably clears more money than i make in 5 years. and if you dont stand up for yourself against ppl like this you can cower in the corner and let them lead you around blindfolded.. i however wont.
and what kind of private buisness that has all of your information and has another secratary say go ahead and let him in gives thier secratary that much power? this appointment takes around 4-6 months my next expected visit would have been around october.. and let me remind you that i was going to pay for a service, i had all of the information they needed. it wasnt policy it was a person who decided to be an ass about something that could have been prevented. she was a snob and wouldnt listen to anything i said, i was very pollite until she blew up on me and threatend to call security if i didnt move aside because other customers that had "bigger problems than i" needed attention.

Damn, you following her? You might want to make your next visit to an anger management doctor...theres no reason to fly off the handle for something like this. She would not have been like she was if you didnt give her a reason to be...we bay be wrong here, but from the story you told it seems you were the one in the wrong.
Rydin Dirtay 04-29-2003, 02:22 PM this is not a single private doctors office i have seen her before when i have gone to other offices in the complex, and her last name is the same as the doctors. So she is either his wife or his daughter.. and im hoping its wife because she is about the same age as he is. it always helps to be a little estute, and no i dont need anger management classes because im not a total ******* just a little bit of one. :D nobody has ever pissed me off this badly except for one of my friends.

Now that's a shame.
Why is it that those who don't have are so bitter at those who have, but not the other way around. I've never heard a rich person use the phrase "those people" about anyone less fortunate than them.
Also, I feel I need to explain something. That doctor has worked his ASS off to get where he is. Anyone who thinks doctors are over paid are extremely ignorant of what it takes to become a physician.
My wife is a resident right now. That is the 3-5 years f training that you have to do after medical school and before you can go out and practice. Her first and second years she would routinely work 80-120 hours a week. There were times when I wouldn't see her for days because she was working so hard. And on top of this, if she made a mistake someone could die.
Then of course you're forgetting about how he got there in the first place. Medical is not easy to get into, nor is it easy to complete (ask Alec, he's doing it right now). Then you have to earn a residency spot, it's not just given to you because you graduate med school.
There is also the CME (continuing medical education) that a physician has to do every year to keep his.her license. That never stops. There are also the exams. Here are three parts to the USMLE (United States Medical Licensing Exam), each of which is very difficult. Oh, and they cost about $500 each. THen of course ther are the board certification exams, which cost about $1200-$2000. And guess what, you have to take those every so often to stay certified.
Then of course there is the malpractice insurance that a doctor has to pay becuase those "have nots" are determined to sue for every little thing (90% of suits are meritless and thrown right out of court). The average is about $70,000 every year for this insurance so they can protect themselves. That's out of pocket for the doctor.

I need to apologize. It was wrong of me to make this sort of generalization. Not all are like this, only a few. Just like ther are some wealthy people who look down upon those that are less fortunate. I've just met more of the former.
Bill Kemp 04-29-2003, 03:15 PM I dont care if your rich or poor you got an attitude and if security guards had to fight you...Well you need help.
This probably was not the first time something like this happened and if you dont get help it wont be the last. Right now is the time to do something for yourself before something serious happens.
sunbum 04-29-2003, 03:42 PM With all due respect, I'm disappointed this thread is getting so much action.
It's one thing to get a lil vocal if there's a life threatening injury that needs attention but take a name, call later and ask for the Office Manager or report them to the Better Business Bureau or something... the last thing you need is a physical confrontation with "security". You could've then been sued for endangering the safety of patients, etc.
TPLYNCH 04-29-2003, 04:12 PM Better yet, report the doctor to your insurance company. Refusal of service could result in the Insurance Co. dropping the doctor, and if the Co. is big, he will lose A LOT of patients, and patients = $$$$.
BTW, I think you overreacted at the time, but human nature being what it is, things happen. Just so long as you don't go "overboard" and escalate the violence.
Stephen 04-29-2003, 05:28 PM Woah chill out guys, Ryan I can see you got angry but relax. There's absolutely no reason to transfer your aggrivation to members of the board. Doc is simply trying to defend his profession, there's nothing wrong with that.
I have several health problems so I deal with doctors and receptionists a lot. My wife also owns a medical billing company so I'm privy to all the ins and outs of the insurance buisness. In all actuality, it would have been likely that if the receptionist had let you in the doctor would not have been paid by the insurance company. All insurance companies are different, but they all try to get out of paying, and pay as little as they possibly can. If that woman is the doctors wife, its most likely that she manages his practice. A doctor's practice is as much a business as it is anything else, and oftentimes doctors aren't interested in dealing with this aspect. A practice is a small business just like anything else. If she manages the practice, then she makes decisions like that. I'd suggest that you carry your insurance card next time. My doctors don't see me without it, its nothing personal, they just want to get paid.
Also, I do want to comment about your reaction to people in life that have money. Thats a gross and quite honestly an insulting generalization. I make just as much money as a doctor (in fact I make more money than a lot of doctors) I drive a $65,000 Lexus and I have a big house. Does this make me a snobby jerk? Do you think to yourself "That rich SOB" when you see me moderating around here? I work my ass off every day of my life, and I've earned the things in life that I have. The same is true of that doctor. If you feel you're overworked and underpaid, then thats your problem, but its not mine, nor is it the doc's. You have to seperate that kinda crap out, we're all just people.
As for the confrontation with security, shit happens I'm not going to comment on that. I've gotten mad at my share of people before. Just remember, you get more flies with honey than you do with vinegar. That doctor isn't likely to see you in the future.
And actually doctors in private practice are 100% allowed to refuse treatment just like I'm allowed not to sell you paper. Its a business just like anything else. Its not a hospital, thats different. Just because a doctor's office accepts your insurance does not mean they are under any obligation to see you. Your insurance company wont care unless the doctor bills them for a visit you didnt actually go to.
mattadams 04-29-2003, 08:15 PM Im with Stephen, I just saw this thread but I'm quite honestly disappointed in your actions. You gotta realize that some poeople have jobs and policies to follow and to be honest with you, if I was the receptionist I wouldn't have let you in even after verifying you have insurance. Perhaps you need to learn some social skills that can make you get the same service if not BETTER service. Also, MOST doctors dont make as much money as you think they do. Due to the cost of malpractice insurance its all some doctors can do to keep the doors to their offices open, and many have to drive nice vehicles as part of their practice and attracting potential customers, not because they are flashy. This is not to say that a lot of doctors aren't rediculously wealthy, but maybe you should do a little research into it before making such generalizations.
FYI, I work in the "customer service industry" (except I'm gettin paid $40k+ so I'm not your tpical cashier or anything, LOL, and we have words for customers that cause trouble and I assure you that it never guarantees you any sort of better service, in fact for repeat visits expect to wait longer then other customers, be treated rudely in the future, and quite possibly be charged more because of your inabilitiy to behave better.
yob_yeknom 04-29-2003, 08:16 PM Okay, WTF does that mean??

That was my question!!
Rich Poor Who Cares it has nothing to do with anything.
Hey Rydin- just because you think you work hard and put in hours above what you are paid for(thats a bad bad thing- Ive been there and it sucks- I learned early not to do it.- I bill for every single minute- take- offs estimates, service EVERYTHING- either hourly or in O&P) doesnt make you or anyone else worth less because they are rich, poor or whatever.
Makes no difference what you do or what the receptionist drives you BOTH deserve to be treated with respect. If she didnt do that you had the responsibility to call her supervisor and let them know- most likely she treats others that way and the owner may want to know. As a businessman I know I would. You had the high ground and you Fu'd up. You are lucky they didnt arrest you.
I know you came on here looking for support, but this board has a ton of experience and backrounds (some of us are rich!!) and are only trying to help. So take the comments as they are meant - hopefully enlightening, and with a broader view of the situation.
Good Luck, and CHARGE for your time. PERIOD. :D
Stephen 04-29-2003, 09:11 PM Chase, Sounds to me like its an office in a big medical professional building. Like any office building they have security guards.
Steve, I wholeheartedly agree as a businessman I too want to know when one of my people is losing me business.
Funny story. My dentist has real receptionist issues. Remember Murphy Brown and her secretaries? Well thats David and his receptionists, he has a real hard time. He's the greatest guy, funny as hell. You've gotta love going to the dentist and the pain comes from the laughter ;) His dad was my dentist for a lot of years and he inherited the practice when he retired. Its a real nice practice, he makes a lot of money and has a really loyal following. Anyways, he had this one really nasty receptionist. I mean this woman was a BITCH, I'd never met anyone so nasty and rude, and I've met some nasty and rude people. She was nice as hell in front of David, and nobody ever mentioned it so he didnt know she was a problem. People started changing dentists. He was at a loss, people his father had been treating for years, just up and leaving and new offices were calling for records. He finally called one of them and asked them why, it was the receptionist. He fired her immediately. Got some of the patients back, but not all. He was shocked that no one had told him that she was such a bitch, instead they just switched dentists.
Moral of the story is, in any situation even with a doctor. If you have an honest problem with someone and you're not the one at fault, tell the supervisor. Trust me, they want you to.
GJarrett 04-30-2003, 02:24 PM Thread closed.
You can now take your chat off the board and keep it between yourselves if you wish to continue.
GJarrett 05-01-2003, 08:09 AM I have edited most of this thread and it still is contentious. If I edited anymore it wouldn't make any sense. I have promised Rydin Dirtay that I would reopen this thread based on the assurance that it would not degenerate into another personal flame war, so I am going to give this one more chance.
Rydin Dirtay started the thread and asked the question whether anyone else agreed that the receptionist was out of line. I count eleven people so far that replied and no one else has agreed, though many express the concern and hope that a lesson is learned from the incident so that another may not occur.
If this thread can stay on that track and constructive discussion prevails then it will survive. If it cannot, it won't. I have already spent a heckuva lot of time trying to fix this (wasting it in this thread on my birthday, of all days  ) and I will not spend anymore; I have other things to attend to in my life. It is up to you guys whether it stays or goes now.
onelasttry 05-01-2003, 12:22 PM Happy b-day Gjarret.
I think the OP went a bit overboard, but i also think that receptionist needs to be handled. I would have gone strait to the doctor.
I drive a $65,000 Lexus
Do i know you somewhere else? :D
Rydin Dirtay 05-01-2003, 01:56 PM Gjarret i tried to PM you but your box was full.. please close the topic im not going to take the time to type the whole story. you have it and thats all that matters so close it please.
hey ur the hurculiner on da hootus guy ROFL :D ive never laughed so hard.. how did ya get it off? and how in the hell did it get there? wait never mind.. just imagining the RIIPPP   ugh.
Rydin Dirtay 05-01-2003, 02:03 PM Oh and for all of you that even care see a lawsuit has been filed against the security guards. i didnt wanna point that subject out but i am. Instead of acting profesional they decided to try and take me down. instead of saying please come with us or please leave they came up behind me when i was argueing with the secratary and tried pulling me down. of course i fought back, i got a cracked rib from the fall. and the doctors office is in risk of loosing its office in the complex. The security guards thought they were a couple of bad ass highly trained elite force of peace keeping officers.. they forgot they were renta cops and in turn both got fired as of today. Im not happy but it makes me feel better than the right kind of employment will be givin to the office. I recieved a letter from the receptionist yesterday stating that she was sorry blah blah, i sent a letter back saying that i too was a little out of hand. however the securtiy gaurds sent me a letter telling me that i was irrational and violent.. kinda funny when you run up behind someone and try to tackle em that they fight back huh? im just glad they didnt get me out the door without a painfull reminder that just cause im younger than they are doesnt mean i cant throw down with the biggest of em :D . my hands still freaking hurt.
GJarrett 05-01-2003, 02:11 PM Yep my inbox got pretty full pretty quick last night :D
Okay I'll close it. Now that you've explained a little bit more to everyone, it is evident that a lot more was going on and that you have taken the proper steps to handle it. :)
