Ok. I had my fuel cap light turn on the other day. So i checked the fuel cap. It was fine. I went out and bought a new one, along with a new fuel filter and fuel injection cleaner. I disconected the batery/reset the computer, and the light stayed off for 5 days. Now the light turned back on. Any ideas on what this might be?

It could be one of 350 things. Ford didn't start putting fuel cap lights on Explorers until the '01 model year so your doesn't have one. If you are referring to the Check Engine Light, then as I said there are about 350 different codes that will set this light. The only way to know which code set it off, is to have them read. Autozone will read them for free as long as you aren't in California. I'd start there.

My '00 has the Check Fuel Cap light. Maybe they started a little early? :)

I second the idea of getting the codes read - it could be another problem with the evaporative fuel recovery system.

I have a 97 and mine has come on a few times...I ususally just reset the computer via a OBD reader and it stays off for a long time. And the light only comes on when its really cold out and ive been driving my car awhile.

My 96 has the fuel cap light, however I've never seen it come on.
