View Full Version : manufacture date
JGAMBLE 05-22-2003, 07:41 AM Ok so I'm working on the X last nite when I look at the Date placard. I decide since she's been one of the more dependable X's I've heard about to check to see when she was made. The manufacture date was 10/94. Weren't they building the 95's by then??? or were the 95's like the 70 1/2 camaro, late in being introduced? Also decided to blow some carbon out and floored her for about a mile straight, she didn't overheat, but got real hot. Just did the cooling system a year ago, any ideas?

Crankcase 05-22-2003, 01:50 PM Ah. yopu probably have one of those "freak" 94s then. Do you have the following in it?
1. The cupholders that aren't sde by side, but instead are one above the other.
2. In the driver side rear cargo area, do you have a little plastic pice inserted in to the side wall, by the rear side window, which does nothing?
Most late 94's have those 1995 pieces in them...
JGAMBLE 05-22-2003, 05:41 PM well the cup holders are the one above each other and yes I have the little plastic piece. Guess this means she's one of Ford little Freaks eh??? pretty cool. Gonna switch to a 180 thermostat soon on the heating issue.

You must mean 12/94. That 12/93 date would make it an early 94, so it would still have the double cup holder and such....
jimbo74 05-22-2003, 10:39 PM no, my truck was built december 93....

Well, that is weird. You must have got some protoype 95 pieces in there, as my Dads' 94, which was built 6/94 has the old 94 pieces. All police vehicles have the build date in the 6th month. In essence, I have one of the last 92's made....
Rhett 05-23-2003, 12:00 AM Mine was built 11/93 and has the old dual cupholders. I'm kinda glad it doesn't have the 95-style cupholders.
JGAMBLE 05-23-2003, 09:55 AM well there's not doubt mine's a 94,brickhouse styling, ttb and all. just wonder how she got built so late in the model year??? Guess maybe somebody found it partially assembled and felt pity for her??? yeah, right:rolleyes:
:chug: :chug:
Rhett 05-23-2003, 12:01 PM JGAMBLE where was your truck built? Check the VIN#, one of the digits will tell which factory it came out of (can't remember which one offhand--at home I have my VIN decoder). Maybe Louisville, KY or Dearborn, MI. I'm just curious since it's such a late production date 94.

I am pretty sure ALL first gens. were built in Louisville Kentucky....

So does that mean my '94 (built in 6/94) was one of the last? Cool! :D

All of the 1st gen's I've ever seen were made there. Still I'm surprised it was all in that 1 place. What if they got bombed? :) Ford needs to disperse production, you never know what could happen.

I think if they actually got bombed, they would be worrying about other things than building Explorers. They would probably be building tanks at that point...
sonik 05-24-2003, 02:26 AM I'm guessing I have one of the first '94's since the build date is 10/93... a full year before JGAMBLE's 94.
Crankcase 05-24-2003, 02:41 AM Actually, the check digit before the last sequential numbers in the VIN is the easy way to tell what part of the years run your Explorer is from.
The letter starts at "A" at the beginning of that model year, until 99,999 units are made, then it changes to a "B", for another 99,999 and so on. If you have an "A", then it is an early vehicle. I have D, one of the last 92's, I believe.
EliteConcept 05-24-2003, 10:30 AM all explorers, rangers and mountaineers are made in Louisville, KY
'96explorereddiebauer 05-24-2003, 11:33 AM Nope! Mine was made in St. Louis.
Digger196 05-24-2003, 12:07 PM Mine was made in Louisville Kentucky. got a sticker to prove it as well!

My family's 01 and 02 Rangers were assembled in the Twin Cities plant.
EliteConcept 05-24-2003, 01:40 PM my mistake, i have a sticker on my rear window thats why i thought that.
i'd like to remove the sticker but i'm afraid it will take the tint off as well......or is the tint inside the glass?
'96explorereddiebauer 05-24-2003, 02:28 PM The tint is applied at the factory by doing something other than a film so it's safe for you to take the sticker out if ya want without damaging anything.
Rhett 05-24-2003, 05:51 PM Mine is a 'B' made in 11/93...I guess that's a fairly early 94 model then.
Now I wonder what the "SPRING" code means on the door sticker... mine is SV, but my friends 93 XLT was something else...does it apply to front coil rates or the leafs or both?
sonik 05-24-2003, 06:28 PM Check digit is A on mine, and springs code is N U.
I have a 98 and the mfg. date on my hood says 1995. In 98 then changed the way the hood latch is and from what I've heard the holes on 95-97's dont line up with the holes for the newer style latch, which I have. Everytime I do work on my truck or look in unusual spots, I find little things that make me think half my truck has been replaced before I bought it. For example, when I pulled the carpet up to run wires for my amp I found a pound of broken glass under it. How does glass get under the carpet unless the trim was completely ripped up and carpet lifted?
sonik 05-24-2003, 09:41 PM Maybe your truck visited a chop shop. Have you ever ran the VIN to check the title? For about the next day or so I can run it for you for free... PM me.

Wow....it might have been in an accident, that wasn't claimed. Look for a little date stamp on the front fender/ radiator area that says the day the fenders were put on......
