View Full Version : clicking in four wheel drive??

my transfer case clicks when i'm in four wheel drive. what can i do to fix it and make it shut up. before something goes really wrong

i only notice it when i'm going slow with my head out the window spotting. thanks for any help.

Are you sure it's the t/case, or could it be coming from your hubs?

he doesn't have hubs.

First thing I would do is check it for fluid.

Does it sound like a Mechnical Clicking or like a Synioliod (SP?), blinker type clicking?

i'm pretty sure it's a mechanical type clicking.
and where can i check it for fluid.??

i know my trany has plenty of fliud but there isn't a tcase dipstick is there???

nope you have to pull the fill plug and stick your fingure in it should be just as high as the bottom of the fill plug.

I had almost the same exact problem you have, and it turned out it was my auto hubs. Just to make sure u can take it inot a 4x4 specalist and have them check it out

Is it constant and vary with speed, or intermittant? It could be your chain or TOD clutch slipping. Chains are a little over 100. The TOD clutch usually isn't replaced, the whole t-case is usually swapped out. Also he has no hubs:D
