I've got a '95 XLT & the gasket heads are leaking coolant only. It's an external leak, so it's not damaging the block. Is there any product I can put in my engine to help this without having to pay $1400 to get it repaired??

Is only one of the heads leaking? If so, I can't imagine having to pay 1400 bucks to have the gasket changed out. You must have gotten your quote from the Ford dealer. I don't recommend using that stop-leak stuff. You might cause more problems than you already have.

Both heads are leaking coolant only (externally). My brother had recommended the stop leak, but I'm not very familiar with this product. The quote for $1400 was to take out the heads, ship them off to be inspected (at $75/each) but they said several other things would need to be replaced also.

Has anyone else run into this problem? Specifically on a '95 model?

my 97 does that on the drivers side every so often.. my dad checked out the time it would take just to take the heads off inspect them and do a valve job and to take the motor out and drop another motor in. the manual said about 8 hours for the r&r on the heads not counting the time to do the work on the heads. the motor swap was less than 8 hours if i remember correctly.

i found a motor for $500 with $75 core charge at a recycle yard from the same year/make/model and 80k miles with everything but the a/c and power steering pump.

with 1400, I would expect a minor port and polish and bigger valves and o-ringing the heads. that is a lot for head replacement.
