Very informative site here. I have a 96 XLT with the Ford remote-keyless entry system and a fried module. Ebay has few/none for the 96, but lotsa modules from 98 Lincolns. Will the Lincoln module work in the Explorer with the orginal 2 remotes? Thanks in advance.

I could be wrong but I don't think they will work. First, they use different transmitters. Second, each module is vehicle and trim level specific. IIRC.

lincoln: no, but there are other options on other vehicles that do use the same remote transmitter...so the module should be somewhat similiar for instance:

since your's is a 96 which uses the D2 progamming method and transmitter type, here are others that are D2 also...

95-97 Explorer/ Mountaineer
97 Escort/ Tracer Wagon
97 Expedition/ Naviagator
97 F-Series
95-97 Ranger
98 Windstar

these cars and years have the same transmitter as yours...try looking for those...

Lucky for me I pulled down a 97 Explorer module off Ebay for $18. Looks like from the advice here it will work. Thanks to all who helped.
