if its anyting like the radio in my 96x was you have to get a set of special "keys" to pull it out from ford. there should be two holes on each side of the radio if you need the keys. hope this helps

Its simple...there are 2 clips one on each side...just take a flat tip screwdriver and pry one clip at a time...thats how mine is...

there is a pice you can buy from best buy that fits in the hole and the cd player fits in there. they are going to charge you 80 bucks to have a prof install

is there a way you can make these special tools yourself? are there any pics?, i'm really short money, so anywhere i can cut costs would be good

Your tools will work!
You have to insert them into the holes then spead them apart (pull the left tool to the left, and pull the right tool to the right).
I got my radio removal tools from Wal-Mart and on the box thats is what it said to do.

You need a special harness to install aftermarket stereos in a Ford vehicle. I had to do the same when mine was installed at Circuit City. Luckily I bought my stereo, when they were running a promotion for free installation.

Yep.. Don't be dumb and cut that factory harness like I did.

Wish I would have found this forum 2 weeks sooner :p

After you pull the old one out, buy a harness adapter and a mounting kit, and the rest is cake.

Don't pay someone else $80 to do what you're perfectly capable of doing. Hell I hardwired mine in about 2 hours total, without a wire scheme. Having an aftermarket harness will make it that much easier.

I cut the harness  i had to just about figure out what each wire did (which was hell cause at the time i didnt know i had the rear stock amp),but o well...i saved the $$$ for a harness!

You don't need the radio removal tools. Take the two bolts above the climate controls out & pull the dash piece out. Push in the clips on the side of the radio and it'll come right out.
