View Full Version : Stupid mistake.

First off my X is totally stock. I sometimes drive over medians when someone is blocking the way or I can get somewhere quicker without putting anyone in danger and usually I just go over it with ease.

Yesterday my 96 X drove over a median and it didn't look that high, but it was, must have miscalculated it...it was 4:00 AM

Anyways as I took it, the front did well but once it got to the driver side door area the middle made a huge scratch noise all the way to the end of the rear doors.

My question is, is the truck designed to take such punishment. And what damage should I look for.

It drives perfectly like before so I can't notice anything right now and there are no leaks. I can't really tell if I dent anything under but by glancing at it quickly at night I found nothing was screwy.

Any information would be appreciated thanks.

Scratch noise - did it sounfd like somethuing was brushing along the outside of the doors, or was it coming from underneath. If it was underneath, it must have been a hell of a median, like a interstate divider.

No cars are designed to take "scratch noise". Why not take a flashlight and look it over and see if there is any damages?

You have skid plates...I wouldnt worry about it too much.

Take that baby offroad once, I'd love to hear your stories after an afternoon in the woods!!! Take some 4wheeler trails, you'll hear scraping and scratching like never before, it's great! And you get free pinstriping for everyone to see!

Worst case scenario...you crunched up the exuast pipe a little. It was probably just the skid plates though...

I took a look under it and I didn't see any damage... no dents or anything either. So I was really frustrated as to the sounds....so I did another stupid thing.

I went back to the median and measured it.... then measured my trucks clearance... I should have been able to make it with no problems. So I ran over it again LOL

Only this time slower... turns out that since I was going a bit faster when the suspension bounced down it hit.

So this time I went slower and I didn't hear a scratch. And funny thing is I found a crack with a lil chunk missing right where I attempted it last time. Wonder if I was responsible LOL...

At first I was loosing confidence in my X but after I drove correctly I just shot my ego a lil and restored the X's image in my head.

Thanks for all responses and help appreciate it.
