Hey I want to get a KKM intake but I heard that it doesnt pass inspection in some states? Also with stock exhaust do you think I would see any gas mileage difference? And difficulty of installation for a decently intelligent person with little car working history?

You are fine in Va. 90% of the time they don't even open the hood.

You may see a small amont of gain with just the intake.

Install is pretty simple. WIth your '95, you will have to remove the MAS from the box it is in and use the adapter gasket that comes with the KKM to attach the MAS to the intake tube, not a biggie.

EDIT: OOPS, you don't have a '95. Forget what I wrote about the MAS in the box.

i got a kkm but im not from va. i say go ahead and get it. it takes a couple minutes to install. if you know what a bolt and a nut are then you will be able to do it.

i say go and try to get inspected. if you can't, go home and spend the 5 minutes putting your stock air box back in, and then when your done, put it back on. i havn't tried inspection yet, i will in about a week, but im not worried at all because of my trick above.

as far as gas mileage or performance gains, im not sure. i dont have any other performance mods either (i.e. exhaust), but it seemed like it took some time for the kkm to 'break' in so i couldn't really tell any performance.

it def sounds badass though, and that is why i would never go back. you can def hear your engine breathing better. plus when you look at your old box and your new kkm, you can just tell how much restriction your ridding. i believe it helps a lot, especially for the money, even though i dont necessarily feel it in the seat of my pants.

Herndon, ain't that in NoVA? They smog test up there don't they? I have one on my X but i'm from Charlottesville/Blacksburg. Besides, your intake ain't gonna cause you to sudden pollute. Just put a K&N sticker on there and they won't be the wiser.

As for difficulty. Cake. Hardest part is getting out the stock (restrictive) air box. Buy it. all things equal, you get a reusable air filter. And once you get the stock airbox out, you'll see how freaking restrictive that thing is!

I wouldn't worry about it, worse case senerio is you have to go home, put the stock box back on and take it in again.

Bah... buy it, install it, goto the inspection.
Bring the old one with you... if they have to, have them give you 5mins and you can pass by bolting the old one back on.
Logic... it's not just for breakfast anymore.

yup in fairfax county, I would think that the inspection would be the same across state. Thanks for the positive replies. Time to empty out my paypal account :).

Yes, Va inspections are a department of the State Troopers and are the same throughout the state.

Oh, Hokiebert, are you still attending Tech? That is in fact where I will be going this fall. I was hoping to get a little extra gas mileage for the 4 hour drive lol.
