Hi everybody, I've has some problems with the tranny on my '03 XLT 4X4. Randomly when I shift into reverse the truck will just die (the engine will stop running, the electronics won't work, AC, everything) and I have to start up the engine again to get it going. The second problem is that for no reason what so ever it will drop into "4X4 Low" all by its self. The dealer checked this out and said they couldn't find any problems, what do you think?:exp:

Oh yeah I have the standard 5 speed auto, that I think comes on all 2003 models

Go to a different dealer. You have a brand new truck, you got less than a year old warranty, USE IT! Do not take no for an answer.

Go to alldata.com and search for TSB's on the 2002-2003 Ex's. I tnink there are several for tranny problems.
Does it physically shift to 4lo, or does the light just come on?

No it actually shifts into 4X4 Low all by its self and makes that awful grinding noise

littledeucecoup, did you go to a different dealership to get it fixed? Man, I'd be pissed as hell if I had a '03 and I'm having this problem already. Don't wait, man, get it fixed.

Do you mean the t-case actually shifted into low while you were moving at road speeds? Are you absolutely sure? The GEM (the computer) should not allow the transfer case to shift into low range unless 3 things have happened : 1. You are a complete stop 2.Tranny in neutral or park 3.Foot on brake.
