View Full Version : 22s with BL
DroppedKamelion 08-12-2003, 10:49 PM alright this is for my freind, who drives a 99 eddiebauer
If he gets a slight bodylift (about 2 or 3 inches), will he be able to ride 22s with a good size tire that wont rub or bust on every pothole?
DUDE!! seriously, every rim thread you post is "Will these fit"?.................WE NEED TO KNOW THE TIRE SIZE!!! RIMS WILL NOT RUB, TIRES WILL!!!! WHAT TIRE DOES YOUR "FRIEND" WANT TO RUN?!?!
DroppedKamelion 08-12-2003, 11:14 PM dude i got my tires.
i dunno what size he wants. he jus wants to know if the lift will allow him to fit a l;arger size profile then the regular max would be.
Black Magic 08-12-2003, 11:37 PM Just get some 285/30ZR22
Black Magic 08-12-2003, 11:38 PM Lift with 22's what has this world come to?!? Can we call him a Bi-plorer? LOL
DroppedKamelion 08-13-2003, 12:12 AM they just wanna lift it enuff to fit the rims with good size tires, so they wont have to dodge every pothole (cant miss em all)
Mbrooks420 08-13-2003, 06:40 AM he jus wants to know if the lift will allow him to fit a l;arger size profile then the regular max would be. Obviously.
DroppedKamelion 08-13-2003, 11:18 AM so itll be easy to do it and put some good size tires that will be able to hit potholes and not worry about them bending?
also what size would be the max fit with the lift? i think the max w/o it is like 40 maybe?
Texplorer 08-13-2003, 11:22 AM OK, Im just going to mention that if he puts on a body lift it will look incredibly bad with 22's. Hell, body lift look bad on off-road trucks if they arent done right. I cant believe Im saying this but if you want to lift the X to fit bigger tires just do a TT/ AAL. Your in Houston so your probably 2wd so its the cheaper way to go anyway. It will be better than a Body lift.
jasonb 08-13-2003, 12:04 PM umm.. i can fit 33s with my BL. i think he/you/whoever this person is should get some 22s and some 33s custom made for the 22s. then you go hit every pothole that you see! i have a big gap all around still though so maybe he should get some 35s.
ton_e_montana 08-13-2003, 12:27 PM :hammer: :nono: :banghead: :D
GaSouthern1 08-13-2003, 12:28 PM this is gonna be horrible..why dont you just get your friend to get 20s and some good size tires. 22s on an X is like putting 18s on a geo metro, just dosent look right at all. With that said opinions are like poop tubes, everyone has one and most of them stink.
DroppedKamelion 08-13-2003, 01:22 PM nah 22s on a x go hard.
Texplorer, what is a TT/AAL? He wants the lift to be totally unoticable, just there to fit the tires, but still appear to be the stock hight.

Well if you put any kind of lift and 22s on it it's not going to look anywhere near stcok height. And a body lift will look horrible with 22s. TT/AAL is Torsion Twist and Add-a-Leaf. The TT will lift the front and the Add-a-leaf will lift the back. If you really really have to have a lift that's the way you should do it, please don't do a body lift then throw 22s on there. This thing is going to look more like an Expedition than an Explorer.
DroppedKamelion 08-13-2003, 01:42 PM And they can do that at most auto body shops or would i have to go to a suspension specialist?
and we know its not gonna look stock hight, i mean compared to the wheels (like the gap from wheel to fender to be the same as it would be with a smaller profile tire)

It's really simple to do yourself. The TT is just cranking on a couple bolts a few time and the add-a-leaf is simple also. Just take off your leaf pack, add the leaf and put them back on!
Texplorer 08-13-2003, 02:01 PM Yeah its pretty easy, in matter of fact have your frined bring it to me and Ill do it for cheap. Im only like 45 minutes away. Ill do the TT and put on the AAL or shackles on myself.
JGAMBLE 08-13-2003, 02:54 PM don't forget to have your friend post pics so we can all get a laugh
:chug: :chug:
Hartman 08-13-2003, 04:06 PM Hell, while we're at it, how bout a 4 inch Superlift, 3 inch body lift, TT/shackles. Then throw on some 30s with a 400/75/R30 tire.
Bling bling yo.
X~FACTOR 08-13-2003, 08:27 PM lol... oh, c'mon Hartman, people might get the idea that this is possible. Soon we will see a thread, "Will 400/75-30 fit with a 7 inch drop?" :D
Wait a minute, this is possible... see for yourself. (http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/attachment.php?s=&postid=725674)
Silverblade 08-13-2003, 08:46 PM I saw a Fullsize truck on the cover of a sport trucks magazine a little while ago that had i think 38s...and 24s...
All show, no go.
DroppedKamelion do you just start threads that you know will piss people off?
DroppedKamelion 08-16-2003, 01:18 PM no i start threads because i have real questions. anyone who would get pissed off at me asking if my freinds eddie bauer could fit 22s with bigger tires with a lift is a moron anyway
Hartman 08-16-2003, 03:59 PM Seriously man, how many trucks do you see that are lifted in order to fit big rims. Almost none, and there's a reason for that. Sure you'll find some of those vehicles on the "bad" side of town, but it's certainly not something that is popular, or that would get you positive opinions.
unabonked 08-18-2003, 08:57 PM i think its time i let out my pet peeve.... every time i go to nyc i see explorer (and other SUVs) on 20s, 22s and the ocational 24. whats worse is they put bush gaurds/rear bumper protectors and tail light protectors on too. the result looks about as elegant as a drunken sailor on ice skates.
does anyone "need" a bush gaurd in NYC anyway? the nearest tree is about 50 miles away.
X~FACTOR 08-18-2003, 09:55 PM does anyone "need" a bush gaurd in NYC anyway? the nearest tree is about 50 miles away.
Excuse me ?!?! You know, those brush guards come in handy here in NY when pushing those Ricers to the sidewalk. That plus having 4x4, rocks, unabonked !
Texplorer 08-18-2003, 09:59 PM After living here for a couple years I can honestly say yes. If you want your bumpers to last more than a year here you need a brushguard. Unfortunatley not a single person in this city has respect for other peoples vehicles and when they parallel park they knock the crap out of your car. I know that is a horrible reason to have a "brush" guard. Before I moved here I actaully got use out of mine while hitting stuff off-road. I do agree that if your gonna go for that huge rim look the brushguards dont go with it.
trebor7577 08-19-2003, 01:17 PM ive seen lifted 4x4's with 18" wheels 33" tires and look good....so what if they never seen dirt. its not you truck so why do you care? Toyo tires has a 20 " mud terain that you need to lift a new superduty 8" and put cut outs on to fit it under "anything". i dont think a truck like that will ever see the dirt......besides if you need to feel better bout your truck by raggin on some one elses then you need to take another look at the direction you truck is goin.....mines ugly, beat to h:D ll, and i love it that way, my budys 85 dodge short box, 4" lift and 33x1300/18's looks sweet, even if it is a pavement princes. any way just my 2cents :shoot: :chug: :chug: :chug: :banghead: :mattmoon:
Hartman 08-19-2003, 04:06 PM OK, lets make something perfectly clear.
Lifting your truck, putting 20s on it with offroad tires is fine with me. In most cases it looks pretty good if you use the right rim. Whatever the case, because you're truck is lifted and has offroad tires, it's obvious you're going for the offroad look (whether it be a "show" type offroad look, or a real offroad look).
If you lift a vehicle for the sole purpose of fitting a huge rim with a very small tire, that has big P Diddy wannabe thug written all over it IMO. Same with brushguards on non-offroad trucks.
Texplorer 08-19-2003, 04:12 PM Does anyone remember that Excursion that was posted a while ago. It was lifted and had 20's with off-road tires and it looked really good. It looked even better when someone posted a pic of it going through some mud off-road. That is perfectly fine, a lift to fit big rims but also big tires.

Haha, I agree with Hartman.
