View Full Version : plow on an explorer? J Zee109 08-13-2003, 07:16 PM anyone who has put a plow on thier explorer, how much do they cost and where is the best place to get them? also, is there a plow that will fit my car? section525 08-13-2003, 09:00 PM A plow on your X will drop its life expectancy by 90%. If I were you I'd find an early 80s fullsize truck and go from there. The tranny in your ride has enough trouble just trying to function in everyday use. Hartman 08-13-2003, 09:07 PM What he said. Not a good idea. I saw a Saturn coupe the other day with a small snowplow receiver on it. I had to laugh... Hartman 08-13-2003, 09:30 PM LOL yeah it was a sight to see. I can see the thing trying to plow a 2 foot snowhill and start spinning it's wheels. :D VairKing 08-13-2003, 09:31 PM Are you sure it wasnt just a towbar reciever? JoshC 08-13-2003, 09:33 PM Originally posted by VairKing Are you sure it wasnt just a towbar reciever? I'm thinking that's what it was, but you're taking the fun out of it :D Hartman 08-13-2003, 09:34 PM No it was a plow receiver because I saw a sticker and it said snow-something. I've also seen a Caravan with a full size slowplow receiver on it. The front was almost dragging. J Zee109 08-13-2003, 11:29 PM haha thats funny sh!t. thanks for the advise though, guess i wont be plowing this winter  Critical_Level2 08-14-2003, 12:53 AM My neighbor has a plow on a geo tracker convertible. It is only a small plow though. He uses it in light snows to clear small drives where bigger trucks cannot get. He can only plow upt about 3-4 inches cause the plow is made of like a fiberglass or heavy strength plastic, but if we only get a few inches, it works great, it is also funny as hell watching him plow with the top off. bobs 93 x 08-14-2003, 06:17 PM actually its OK to put a plow on your explorer as long as you only use it this time of the year. when winter comes, leave the plowing to the BIG boys. F14CRAZY 08-14-2003, 08:57 PM Howdy. Down in Indiana when I was traveling last winter, I saw a 1st generation Eddie with a snowplow at a gas station. Had auto 4x4 hubs too. (poor sucker) I wish I would have talked to the owner, because I'm kind of interested in the idea myself, but it sounds like it's not a good idea. F14CRAZY 08-14-2003, 09:00 PM I forgot to comment on the Caravan with a snowplow; I know that some Caravans have AWD, but it seems like the tires, ground clearance, and light dutiness of a mini van would render it useless with a plow, either it wouldn't do anything or wouldn't last long. Forder 08-14-2003, 09:14 PM Well if you put a plow on your Ex and plowed in 4low, it wouldn't stress out the tranny near as much, would it? |
