View Full Version : Wasps have invaded my X
MaverickDaKid 08-14-2003, 02:10 AM Ok this is kinda weird.... Don't know if you guys have ever had this happen to your X but some Wasps decided it would be fun to build a nest by my liftgate.
Now I gota find a way to kill their nest and them without getting stung or calling an exterminator.
Looks like its been there for a while too. And I have been using my 93 for off roading purposes lately and I didn't even notice till someone said that one of my speakers were making a funny buzzing sound. Turned out to be a wasp lol. I checked it out and turns out theres a nest with eggs and all....
Well off to claim my truck again... any help appreciated.
Crankcase 08-14-2003, 02:15 AM Where is the nest built? Inside? If it is inside, you will need some strong chemicals to get them out.....If it is outside, you can try using smoke or something to get them out of the nest, and just scrape off the nest....
akcrogers 08-14-2003, 03:45 AM just pick up some wasp killer spray and hose em down.
mattadams 08-14-2003, 11:51 AM man I thought I was the only one that had that happen! I parked my explorer for about 6 months and when I got out there I had hives growing in the door jam and in the spare tire holder, scared the crap out of me, I HATE bees! I went ot home depot and got some bee spray, waited til evening (like the instructions said) and sprayed the nest area... next day, everything was dead just went and scraped out the hive, washed away the carcuses. Great stuff.
aldive 08-14-2003, 11:56 AM You could also set on an insecticide bomb inside the truck.
Good kuck,,,,,
JDraper 08-14-2003, 11:57 AM Wait until late evening to do it. That way all of them will be back at the nest, and they will be more lethargic. Then hose the crap out of them with wasp killer.
aldive 08-14-2003, 11:59 AM Will the sprays do any damage to paint?
mattadams 08-14-2003, 12:00 PM they didn't to mine... just sprayed it, the next day hosed everything off, no problems.
DasFrem 08-14-2003, 12:10 PM Was I the only one who read the title of this thread and thought "White Anglo Saxon Protestents invaded his truck, how odd?" Mabye I'm just retarted, no wait, I am.
Sorry for the hijack
JDraper 08-14-2003, 12:17 PM Hmmm, good point Matt!! That infestation might take more than a little bug spray to remove. I think gangsta rap played at high volume might be the ticket for removal :D
MaverickDaKid 08-14-2003, 05:37 PM Gangsta rap hu? I think ill have to pass on that one lol.
I sprayed the hell out of their hive....it was a weird location I had to open the lift gate and in between the truck and the liftgate, thats where the hive was located.
I'm scared of bees like crazy so I was really cautious had to cover myself in a sweater, sweat pants and a ski mask.
Sprayed them like crazy and a couple went after me.... ran all the way to the park to loose them. I know how badly they can't turn so I ran in a zig zag pattern... I felt like such a moron...
Did it 3 times and knocked the hive to the floor and they were gone... my neighbor was looking at me like "what the hell are you doing" He later told me to take a picture and send it to the local paper, everyone around here got a laugh out of it....

LOL dont laugh but this works. Last summer I had a bee inside my truck. He decided to sit in my passenger seat and refused to leave. I turned the volume up on my system and basically vibrated him to death.
OZexplore 08-14-2003, 09:41 PM what would you blokes do if it was something really dangerous in australia we hear of snakes getting into cars all the time there was even a story on the news a couple of years ago in north queensland where some bloke forget to close his front door & when he went outside in the morning to hop in his car there was a 6 foot crocidile laying across the seats (i think he wanted to learn to drive)
Charlie's_93EB 08-14-2003, 11:29 PM 1st i think runnng ZIG ZAG is for gators (it is a Florida thing, does it work with crocs.?)
2nd to get rid of all of the wasps, bees, or crocs! pull your truck into your garage close the door so they can not get out. Spray the living heck out of the hive, run into ur truck and lison to some music for a while. Besure to start your truck and turn on your ac if you get hot and stay there for an hour or so!:D
PS PLEASE DON'T i think it is so funny though;)
IgotTwo 08-14-2003, 11:46 PM I battle those guys every year.... my 67 PU does not have the tightest seams and has plenty of places for them to take up residence... like - in the hood louvers that lead in to the interior vents! Open the inside vent at 50 MPH and surprise haha
Bug spray and the paint? - if you are concerned use the water based stuff. I put the truck in the garage and let loose one of those locking foggers to get them where they hide ..... its also "a two for one deal " ...do the truck and garage at the same time.
Works for me!
But you gotta hate it!
Trucks make good homes for lots of creatures:D I have found several mouse nests on intake manifolds. The mice like to use the underhood insulation for their nests.
I found a badger under the hood of a car that I was looking at for parts. I popped the hood and this thing was on the manifold bearing it's teeth and growling at me! This was after I had already removed the speedometer from inside the car. The speedometer had mice turds in it's housing YUCK!
IgotTwo 08-15-2003, 12:01 AM I swore for years that a group of neighborhood “upperwardly mobile” squirrels thought my intake manifold was their personal George Foreman Nut Roaster.
Bottomlesspit 08-15-2003, 12:11 AM I had to spend a lot of time last week spraying down and cleaning out my Craftsman sockets! I have them hanging on a peg board and dang bees made mud type nests in half of them. Talk about a huge mess. They fill the sockets with a mud/bee mushy stuff mix, and then place a hard green cap over the end. It is terrible!
Weirdest thing for me is when I bought my new 1989 Honda Shadow motorcycle. I only had it 3 days when I went out to drive it and found little green spiders had crawled up into the tach and speedo guage pods and completely wrapped the needles to the resting posts! BOTH guages were ruined. There is no way to fix that since the guages are sealed except for the cable entry slot. $500+ to replace!!!
Watch out for them critters.

blueox 08-15-2003, 12:42 AM We drove my wife's car 7 miles into town and looked down and there was her cat crawling out of the wheel well.
The cat was never quite right after that.

I had that happen once, except it was a pretty ending, cat under tire.
