The tranny seems fine the reason for this post is when I manually (she is an automatic) put here in gear (reverse or drive) she kicks in really hard but when she is in gear she changes gears with ease. What would cause the tranny to engage so roughly? Any cure?

I had that problem in my older Bronco, it would bang when I put it in Drive or Reverse, turned out my u-joints had some play in them, also check your tranny mount.

Ahhh, Thanks dondiesel444! That sounds easy enough. How can I tell if I have to much play in the u-joints?

put the parking brake on (engine off), then put the tranny in Nuetral, then go under the truck and turn the driveshaft back and forth with one hand while holding the yokes with the other. any play is too much, there should be none. also grab the output yoke of the tranny and push on it really hard in all directions to check the tranny mount. A little play here is ok, but you'll know if there is too much. good luck!!

Thanks again dondiesel444. Now I just need to find a way to connect my ebrake cable. I converted the rear to disc and still havn't taken the time to figure out how to hook it up.

the e-brake being applied is just so the truck doesn't decide to run you over when your under there while it's in nuetral, you could just block the wheels if you wanna...
