My '94 Explorer liftgate bracket welds have broken and bracket has fully separated from the liftgate. I promptly drove down to my local dealer to seek repair under the current liftgate bracket recall.

I was told that Ford would pay only to "reinforce" the bracket, but first I would have to pay for reattachment of bracket to liftgate via welding.

This seems pretty stupid to me but the poges at Ford Customer Service just keep reading parts of the recall to me and also tell me reattachment is not covered. Has anyone had luck in getting Ford to repair a separated bracket under this safety recall?

Wasn't that recall back in 97 or something? Just wondering.....

Dang, that sucks. One of my brackets broke off too a couple months ago too. I just called my dealer up and they told me to bring it in anytime and they'd fix it along with all the other recalls that hadn't been proformed on it yet. And that's what they did, no hassles and not that long of a wait either. Though they did totally screw up my power mirrors with that friggin fuse they put in there.

Try a different Ford dealer......even though what they are saying is technically true, the recall is to add brackets over the existing welded ones, maybe another Ford dealer will let that slide...

just went to a shop when the brackets on mine broke and had them reattach and re enforce the brackets at the same time. did not even fool with the ford dealer if you complain enough they might do it . good luck
