AMSOil makes a full Synthetic tranny fluid. I'm running it in my Sport Trac's auto tranny.

They say it's Mercon V compliant:

The cost, I don't remember. But it ain't cheap. I won some from one of the Explorer 4x4 events and bought 3 or 4 more from Martel Bros in Katy, TX for when I did my tranny flush. I don't remember off the top of my head what price I paid.

There's a guy on this site that sells the AMSoil products. Look for the AMSoil banner ad. You just need to email him for the price.

I recently bought some Valvoline Syntec, it's a synthetic blend, not full, it is Mercon V compliant, says so on the bottle.

How important is it to get a Full or Semi Synthetics over a regular Mercon V? The price on those things are over twice as much as the regular ones. Wouldn't be better to just use regular and change it once a year instead of full synthetics once every 2 years? Just a little curious...

Semi synthetic does not have to have a particulat quantity of synthetic to be called semi' most have very little.

Full synthetic will allow the tranny to run cooler, lube netter, and will allow for better gas mileage.

I use Mobil 1 ATF in mine, and have for over 60k miles ( with full changes of course ).

Just for the record, Mobil 1 ATF isn't Mercon V approved.

Also, to meet the specs for Mercon V, the fluid must be at least a "semi-synthetic". ALL, Mercon V approved fluids are at a minimum semi-synthetic, otherwise they would not meet Ford Spec.
