I have a question about the wiring harness under the passenger seat of 2001 sport for the airbag..The ford dealer checked the code that I was getting ,code 37 wiring harness under passenger seat. they told me I needed a new wiring harness. I took my explorer in to the ford dealer yesterday and got it back today. The dealer told me they had to take both seats out and carpet to remove wiring harness and replace it. Does anyone here know exactly what all is involved in changing this harness. Do both seats, console and carpet have to be removed? I checked the bolts in the seat when I got home . They do not look like they have been taken out at all.
Thanks
Chuck

I had the same code 37 on my 2000 XLT. It came on right after I vaccumed the area under the passenger seat. Turned out to be a loose connector under the passenger seat, that I must have knocked loose. I just pulled it apart and put it back, and all was fine. The connector is at the back and able to be knocked around by people sitting in the back seat. (many thanks to this web site, and the others who had the same problem)
I can't imagine a whole harness needing to be replaced. Are you sure it wasn't the dealer up to their old dirty tricks?

I had read on this web site about unplugging and plugging the connector back in. I did this but the code was there every time I started the truck . After the dealer checked the vehicle and ordered the wiring harness, about 2 days before I took the truck in the light quit coming on. I took the truck in any way. It just looks like they haven't taken the seats out or disturbed the carpet at all.

I would try to have a look at the wiring, to see if you can find any signs that it may still be your old one. Look for any dirt, or dust on the harness if you can. That may prove that it was never changed. After that it would be just your word against his.
I have found over the years that auto mechanics can be real crooks. This is even more true for women and people who don't know much about cars. I have been lucky enough to find an honest mechanic who takes real pride in his work, and is very honest, and charges rates in the middle of the range. Dealers I have found to be honest for the most part with large jobs, but very expensive on the labor end, and quick to sell parts you may not really need.

Yes I know it's going to be my word against there word.
I was just asking this question to see if any one had done this job or knew exactly how this job was done.
Thanks .
By the way this is a great site.
