Ford wants $60 to diagnose my ABS problem. I've got a warranty, but if I don't use it, i get my money back. Will any code reader be able to give me an idea of what the problem is? I need to diagnose this cheaply, or just take it in and give up hopes of getting my money back.
BTW, I just replaced my brake pads with carbon metallic from AutoZone, any idea if these are okay/crap/great?
Thanks in advance ya'll.
(BTW YES I DID A SEARCH AND FOUND NO GOOD ANSWER)

When you replaced your pads and retracted the piston, bet you didn't open your bleeder screw did ya?
The short answer is, no code reader will read ABS codes. Most scanners won't read them either, only a few will and they cost a hellva lot more than $60. Your probably stuck taking it too the dealer.

Betting is like assuming ; ) I did, but before I didn't clearify that the light had been on for a while before i decided to do brakes.

I had the same problem on my 1991 Explorer, and mine was that it was the Rear ABS valve. Might be the same thing, you might wanna check that out

My 99 ABS light came on. Took it to my mechanic. It was right rear ABS sensor. $55 total bill. He told me the OBD II spits out ABS codes that turn the warning light on. He also said sensor failure was very common. Hope this helps.

My ABS light came on intermittantly, Turned out the sensor wire had been rubbed thru and was shorting itself out on the wheel, lttle bit of electrical tape fixed it, cost $.02. might leave you $59.98 for the toy/beer fund?:D
