I was looking into getting wheels and tires but always found that the bigger the rim the better the truck looks was looking at a either 33x12.5R15 or the 305/70R16 BFG mudders does anyone have any suggestions. Or should I stay with a 15 inch rim for more tire flex on the trails. Just an Idea I was playing with Thanks

My first question is what do you drive more, 90% trails or more street/daily driving? There is a major difference is wheel size for a number of factors. On the trail a 15" wheel vs. a 16" wheel is a matter of 1/2" of sidewall. Most 16" tires are 6-8 plys so the tire will be stronger in the tread vs. a 4-6 ply tire on a 15" wheel. On the street is where you will find the most advantages of the larger wheel. I can't explain all the technical reasons why a 16" wheel has much better characteristics, even though I was in the tire industry for a number of years. I have done this test personally so I can tell you staight. We took two identical vehicles, one with a 33x12.50R15 on a 15x10" wheel, and the other with same tire only on a 16" wheel. The difference was night and day. The 16" wheel had great road manners. The 15" wheel was constantly wondering and taking every groove in the road. I have had 15, 16, and 17" wheels on my X. I now have 17x10" wheels with a 35x12.50R17 tire. My sidewall is the same height as a 33x12.50R15 tire, if not a hair more. I drive this thing at 85+ mph on the freeway all day long. The truck does not wonder, does not vibrate, or have a mass of body roll. Check out my gallery for pics of the 17" wheels. It does take away a little from the look of a 35" tire though.

I'd say if you can afford it, go with the 16s.

Thanks I used to have a Ranger with 31x10.5r15 and I noticed that it isn't as bad as to say a 33 but I have driven trucks with 33s and noticed the wandering. I although I like offroading it is mainly trails with cross-ditchs not so much the dessert storm I see on this site. hence why I went with the superlift 5.5" and not the more expensive skyjacker lift. Thanks for your help. I also noticed the 305/70R16 have a higher load capacity.

You will see the higher load capacity because 90% of them are 8ply tires (meant for 3/4 ton trucks). Mine are 8 plys but they still ride nice because I don't run as much air. They will last longer also. the 305/70R16 BFG All-terrain sounds like the perfect tire. Tough off-road, good on-road mannors and 50k+ miles.

The Super-lift kit isn't so bad. I ran one for several years (OK I went through three of them but not my fault). ;)

Now I ran BFG AT's on my ranger and found that it wasn't as good in the mud so I was thinking of going with some MT

The new MTs are great. I would be running them if I didn't get such a good deal on mine. I've been pretty happy with the ATs so far. We are thinking of getting a set of those new IROKs with beadlocks to run on the trails so I can have the great all-terrain everyday.

Nice...... That would be awesome but I don't have to run beadlocks nor do I need them for what I am doing. But as far as the BFG AT's go they are a awesome tire for wear, road, snow and minor offroad. But after driving my buddies jeep with 33" BFG MT I can't go back to the AT's

Does anyone have any neg. reason why I shouldn't get the 16x8 vs the 15x8 as far as maybe off road is concerned?? Thanks
